Jubilations As Apena Family Welcomes Prince Jimi Yekini-Goloba Home

There was wild jubilation at Apena Compound in the interior part of Isolo as the royal family hosted Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba to a lavish reception.

The reception which was held on Sunday 29th September 2024 at the family compound located off Akowonjo Street, Isolo drew an unprecedented large crowd of family members, friends and admirers of the British-trained Optician who came to witness the reception.

Prince Yekini-Goloba is one of the sons of the former monarch of the ancient Awori town, Oba Yekini-Goloba who reigned for 10 years before joining his ancestors in 2004.

He hails from the Apena branch of the Alagbeji Chieftaincy/Royal Family of Isolo and he's considered a leading contender for the vacant throne of Osolo of Isolo.

Though, Isolo Kingmakers are yet to officially announce the Oba-elect among the 15 aspirants for the throne, grapevines sources say the coast seems clear for the medical practitioner to mount the throne recently vacated by the Late Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Adelaja Agbabiaka who died recently after almost 20 years reign.

Multiple sources say Prince Yekini-Goloba is the kingmaker's choice having ranked highest during the Ifa divination rites and voting exercise by the Kingmakers.

Aside this, the Apena prodigy is considered the most popular among the elites, youths and the traditionalists many of whom have been greatly inspired by Jimmy's gentleman disposition and philanthropic gestures.

All these qualities, perhaps, have combined favourably to make Jimmy, a pride and leading light of the Apena Family.

Little wonder, the family compound was a beehive of festivities at the weekly family meeting on Sunday when Jimmy breezed into town.

Noted for his love for customs and tradition, Jimmy captivated the crowd with his exquisite dance steps much to the admiration of the crowd which came to welcome him home.

From his family compound, it became a road walk of some sort after the reception as the crowd escorted him to his father's compound on Akinbaiye Street via Esa and Panada Street.

The crown prince was said to have arrived last Tuesday from a business trip to Dubai.

Bobrisky: Corrections Suspends Four Senior Officers

. As Falz Threatens Lawsuit Against VDM

The Board of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Service has suspended forthwith four senior officers of the service following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions involving cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye popularly called Bobrisky.

In a press release signed the secretary to the Board, Ja'afaru Ahmed, the officials are Michael Anugwa, the Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Medium Security Custodial, Kiri-kiri, Lagos; Sikiru Adekunle, the Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Maximum Security Custodial, Kiri-kiri, Lagos.

Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Afikpo, Ebonyi for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the correctional centre to a location outside of the correctional facility.

In a related development, the Board has also suspended another senior officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.

According to the Board, the suspension of these officers is to allow for further investigation of the various allegations while assuring that the outcome would be made public when completed

Meanwhile, though cross-dresser Bobrisky has insisted he served his recent jail term the way he should, star rapper, Falz, has given an indication that the man jailed for naira abuse did request N3m from him to secure a ‘VIP section’ in the correctional centre.

Falz has, however, said he never acceded to the request just as he has denied the allegation and insinuation by controversial critic, VeryDarkMan that he and his father, revered lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), might have aided Bobrisky’s alleged deal with some EFCC officials.

On Tuesday September 24th,  VeryDarkMan had released a purported audio conversation between Bobrisky and a male friend in which Bobrisky claimed he spoke with Falz in prison and that Falz and his dad, Femi Falana, vtried to get him a presidential pardon.

VDM, in his reaction, expressed disgust at Falz and his father for associating with Bobrisky and even asked if Falz ‘dey do.’

While the Federal  Government and the agency have vowed to probe the allegation, Falz, through his lawyers, Falana & Falana’s Chambers, has given VeryDarkMan 24 hours to apologise and retract his comment about him:or face litigations.

Isolo Throne: Eight Aspirants Threaten Legal Action Against Kingmakers

Eight aspirants to the vacant Isolo throne are poised to take legal action against Isolo Kingmakers, if they fail to nullify the selection of Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba as the Osolo-elect.

This is sequel to a letter written to the four Kingmakers by the chambers of Kay Ademiluyi & Attorneys demanding the nullification of the selection process earlier conducted by the Kingmakers.

Acting on behalf of the eight aspirants, the letter written on 23rd September 2024 titled: 'Irregularities and Illegalities In The Selection Process of Osolo of Isolo' asserts that the Kingmakers individual preferences superseded traditional Ifa divination rites even as they collectively and severally monetized the selection process.

The letter also alleged that each contestants was levied N3.5m each, totalling N35m despite government's warning against such.

The aspirants through their lawyers also alleged impersonation of the Head/Oloriebi Alagbeji Chieftaincy/Royal Family, just as they claimed no consensus was reached; instead 'each kingmaker chose a different candidate.'

According to the lawyers, the actions of the Kingmakers constitute criminally obtaining by false pretences, impersonation and breach of trust.

The aspirants are therefore demanding nullification of the entire selection process, the refund of the total sum of N35m collected from the aspirants and thorough investigation of the matter by law enforcement agencies.

The aspirants challenging the selection process listed in the letter are 1) Saheed Adekunle Aregbe 2) Hon. Shakiru Adeola Sadiq 3) Alhaji Kolawole Goloba 4) Prince Kazeem Faronbi 5) Chief Ganiu Mustapha O. 6) Prince Lawal Arowooye Yahya 7) Aremo Abeeb Adeshina Faronbi 8) Moroof Ajala Goloba.

When contacted, the Head of the Kingmakers, Dr. Mukaila Adesegun Agbabiaka claimed ignorance of the letter purportedly written by the law firm. "I have not received any letter from any law firm. When I do, I will respond accordingly," he said.

Reminded that the law firm in the letter (a copy of which is in the possession of The Snoop Media) is alleging irregularities and Illegalities in the selection process, the medical practitioner retorted: "There is nothing more to add other what I have said in the audio which has been widely circulated across the social media. We invited the aspirants; we screened them, we consulted Ifa divination. We were bounded by customs and tradition as well as dictates of the Chieftaincy Law of the state before arriving at our choice.

"I don't know of any irregularities they are claiming. As far as I am concerned, we have done our job consentiously, with high sense of responsibility, dedication and commitment to the development of Isolo. If anybody holds contrary opinion, they should come out and prove it," says the Head of the Kingmakers.

Sanwo-olu Intervenes In Isolo Obaship Tussle

. As Kingmakers Disagree

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olushola Sanwo-olu has intervened in the Obaship tussle currently rocking Isolo, the Awori ancient town.

The Snoop Media exclusively gathered Gov Sanwo-olu's intervention followed a petition reportedly forwarded to him by a yet to be known persons on the selection process that culminated in the choice of Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba as the Osolo-elect by Isolo Kingmakers.

The petitioners had complained about alleged shoddy process and favouritism which informed the choice of Prince Yekini-Goloba.

Consequently, Gov. Sanwo-olu therefore refered the matter to the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Robert for proper investigation.

The commissioner was said to have summoned the Head of the Kingmakers, Dr. Mukaila Adesegun Agbabiaka Jagun-Aluko; the Acting Head of the Alagbeji Ruling Family, Balogun Mujeeb Adio Adam and High Chief Ekundayo Bamgbose to his office to explain the process that led to the choice of Prince Yekini-Goloba.

The Snoop Media gathered that at the appointed time, the petitioners reportedly did not show up at the commissioner's office to substantiate their petition.

The development came as a surprise to the Head of the Kingmakers, Dr. Mukaila Adesegun Agbabiaka who expressed his dismay at the turn of events in a viral audio where he submitted that truth will eventually prevail.

While maintaining that the selection was free, fair and conducted in the presence of representatives of Alagbeji family branches and other stakeholders, he remarked that posterity will judge everyone for their actions and inactions.

However, one of the Kingmakers, High Chief Wasiu  Saka Omotoba (a.k.a Olondo) may have thrown spanners in the work of the Kingmakers. In a viral audio in the possession of The Snoop Media, the Afobaje Omotoba stated unequivocally that contrary to rumours making the round, the selection of a successor to the Osolo throne was inconclusive.

According to Olondo: "Indeed, Ifa was consulted. But the consultation only relates to the town and not to matters relating to succession to the Osolo throne.".

He added: "When it is time for consultation on the succession, critical stakeholders must have to be invited. I am not aware of any consultation on the vacancy of the Osolo throne. I am only aware of the Ifa consultation on the town. And the consultation portend great danger for Isolo town if certain divination and sacrifices were not carried out on time. We have given the Babalawo the sum of N500, 000 (Five hundred thousand naira) to carry out  sacrifices to ward off evil from our community ".

Meanwhile, the tussle for the vacant Isolo throne may have shifted to the social media as major actors  are reportedly using the internet to ventillate their bid for the throne through the help of praise singers who are also maligning opponents by bringing their credibility into disrepute.

In doing so, the praise singers are also targeting some of the Kingmakers whom they are accusing of being bias in their choice among the aspirants.

One of those who have been maligned in the viral audio is the Head of the Kingmakers, Dr. Mukaila Adesegun Agbabiaka who has allegedly been accused of working vigorously for the emergence of Prince Yekini-Goloba.

Interestingly, Dr. Agbabiaka has swiftly responded to the custic remark made against him by his detractors. In response, Dr. Agbabiaka's praise singers say the medical practitioner has brought to bare a high level of responsibility, commitment, dedication, progress and service to Isolo community, noting that only those who want the community to continue in its dark days would find his involvement unbearable.

As discussion on the vacant throne of Isolo dominate discussions in the ancient Awori town, fingers remain crossed as attention shift to Alausa, where egg heads at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development are currently investigating the contentious Isolo kingship matters with a view to resolving it.

EFCC Counters Yahaya Bello's Claim Of Surrender

. Says: He Was Arrested At Midnight

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s claim that he voluntarily surrendered to the commission, stating that he was actually arrested in Lokoja during a midnight operation.

Currently, Bello is in custody at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja, where he faces a 19-count charge of money laundering involving N80 billion.

Despite Bello’s media team asserting that the former governor had chosen to cooperate with the EFCC after consulting with family, legal advisers, and political associates, the EFCC has clarified that Bello had been evading court appearances since the case began at the Federal High Court, Abuja, in April 2024.

A reliable source from the commission disclosed that operatives had trailed and apprehended Bello early in the morning, contradicting his earlier statements.

Bello’s media office had released a statement on Wednesday claiming that his decision to “honour” the EFCC’s invitation was in line with his commitment to upholding his fundamental human rights and ensuring that due process was followed.

However, the EFCC insists that the former governor was apprehended, not voluntarily surrendered.

Lagos Big Boy, Barryshine Bursted For Multiple Drug Offences

. As Court Remands Him For 30 Days

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have taken into custody a wanted drug baron, Alhaji Suleiman Ganiu Aremu (a.k.a Barryshine) two years after coming under the radar of the anti-narcotics Agency.

Suleiman who is the Managing Director/CEO of Barryshine Suleiman Nigeria Ltd came under the Agency’s watchlist over his alleged role in four foiled attempts to export cocaine to Saudi Arabia and Qatar through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja Lagos between 2022 and 2024.

His name first featured on November 13, 2022, when a female passenger on Qatar airlines flight to Saudi Arabia, Alhaja Ajisegiri Kehinde Sidika was arrested at the MMIA in possession of 400 grams of cocaine, which was concealed inside female footwears.

Investigation later revealed that one Abdullahi Olarenwaju Ramon, who is a brother to Suleiman hired the arrested drug courier.

Further facts emerged that the flight tickets and other travel expenses of the suspect were sourced by Alhaji Suleiman Ganiu Aremu.

A few days after the arrest of Ajisegiri Kehinde Sidika, another drug mule, Lawal Lateef Oyenuga was also arrested on November 24, 2022, with the same quantity of cocaine, 400 grams, concealed in male footwears while going to the same destination, Saudi Arabia.

The suspect, Lawal Lateef Oyenuga confessed that one Wasiu Sanni Gbolahan (a.k.a Teacher) who was later arrested and convicted by the court, hired him for Suleiman. Lawal further alleged that Wasiu Gbolahan linked him up with the baron through one Igbono, who was later unveiled through investigation as Oluwafemi Akande Abidoye (a.k.a Igbono, Murphy, Femi Iwaya, Ade Iwaya, Baba Eje and Ejeoto)

While investigation of the two cases subsisted and the manhunt for the baron was ongoing, two drug mules were also arrested at the MMIA on June 21, 2024 on their way to Doha, Qatar.

One of the suspects who was later identified as Aikhomoun Daniel (a.k.a Oladapo Olanrewaju) expelled in observation custody a total of 90 pellets of cocaine, weighing 1.022kg, which he ingested, while the second suspect, Ayigoro Waheed Omobolaji excreted 60 wraps of cocaine with a total weight of 662 grams.

Further investigation later revealed that the two arrested couriers, Aikhomoun Daniel and Ayigoro Waheed Omobolaji were recruited by the same Igbono who works for the baron and featured in 2022 during the arrest of Ajesegiri Kehinde Sidika and Lawal Lateef Oyenuga.

Financial investigation conducted by the Agency also linked the baron Suleiman to the arrested suspects and two of his associates who recruit traffickers for him: Oluwafemi Akande Abidoye and Olanrewaju Abdullahi Ramon, both currently at large.

In his statements, Suleiman claimed he is into property development and hotel management while he lives in Lagos and Paris, France. He also stated that he runs another business that deals in cloths with his wife at Balogun market, Lagos Island, adding that his regular visits to Saudi Arabia was to perform lesser hajj.

He said he holds the traditional title of Akeweje of Yaba (Youth Leader of Yaba Land). Already, some properties traced to Suleiman include: two houses at 63 and 72 Queens Street, Ebute-Meta and his Barryshine Hotel at 95 Freeman street, Yaba, Lagos.

Meanwhile, Justice Dipeolu Deinde Isaac of the Federal High Court, Lagos has granted an application by the NDLEA for the extension of the detention of the drug kingpin Suleiman for 30 days and to declare his two associates: Oluwafemi Akande Abidoye and Olanrewaju Abdullahi Ramon, both currently at large, wanted.

Ruling on the motion ex-parte in suit number: FHC/L/MISC/555/24, Justice Dipeolu said

“an order is hereby made declaring one Oluwafemi Akande Abidoye a.ka ‘Igbono’, ‘Murphy’, ‘Femi Iwaya’, ‘Ade Iwaya’, ‘Baba Eje’, ‘Ejeoto’ wanted who is presently at large for his involvement in multiple drug trafficking activities with Suleiman Aremu Ganiu (a.k.a Barryshine).”

The judge also ruled that “an order is hereby made declaring one Olarenwaju Ramon Abdulahi wanted who is presently at large for his involvement in the drug trafficking activities with Suleiman Aremu Ganiu (a.k.a Baryshine) with respect to the arrest of Ajisegiri Kehinde Sidika who was arrested at MMIA Ikeja-Lagos during outward clearance of Qatar Airways flight to Saudi Arabia with 400 grams of cocaine concealed in foot wears.”

Reacting to the development, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the officers and men of the MMIA Strategic Command for the painstaking two years investigation that culminated in the conviction of three traffickers and the eventual arrest of the kingpin behind the cartel. He said this demonstrates that the long arm of the law will always get whoever is involved in the criminal trade no matter how long it takes.

MC Oluomo Backs Down On Presidential Ambition

. Begs To Remain Lagos NURTW Boss

Former Chairman of Lagos State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Musiliu Akinsanya (a.k.a MC Oluomo) may have backed down in his ambition to become the National President of the union.

This is coming as he is reportedly making  surreptious moves to return to the saddle as the Lagos State Chairman of the union.

It would be recalled that Oluomo was once suspended indefinitely by the national secretariat of the union for flouting directives from the national body. Instead of answering the query issued to him, Oluomo stormed out of NURTW alongside members of the Lagos State Executives to join Lagos State Parks and Garages Management.

Interestingly, he showed up at the National Congress of the union held in Abuja last year to support the candidature of former Lagos NURTW Boss, Tajudeen Agbede.

However, a National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja affirmed Tajudeen Baruwa as the re-elected president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

This was just as the court sacked the Tajudeen Agbede-led Caretaker Committee of the NURTW.

While delivering her judgment on the leadership crisis rocking the union, Justice O. O. Oyewumi held that the delegates’ conference across the six zonal councils held on May 24, 2023, where Baruwa emerged as President for a second term in office was valid.

The presiding judge also restrained the former President of the Union, Najeem Yasin, who was the Board of Trustees chairman, from interfering in the day-to-day running of union affairs.

The judgement has now become a subject of appeal at the Appeal Court in Abuja.

Shockingly, MC Oluomo emerged on the scene to bid for the position of the National President backing on pervasive and subterfuge antics to achieve his aim. He is said to be banking on his closeness to Seyi Tinubu to achieve his aim.

But it does appear Oluomo is not making any headway in his inordinate ambition and has therefore decided to restrategize by dropping his presidential ambition to align with the egg heads at the national secretariat.

Sources close to him informed that he has recently made overtures to Tajudeen Baruwa on two occasions, pleading to be considered for a second tenure as Chairman of Lagos State branch of the union. This grand plot according to dependable sources is precipitated on the fact that the current chairman, Mustapha Adekunle (a.k.a Sego) is yet to be officially sworn-in as Chairman of Lagos branch of the union as prescribed by the constitution of the union.

Interestingly, this plot has fallen through as Baruwa reportedly told Oluomo and his emissaries he does not want to be part of such plan.

The present situation has therefore left the once influential Lagos big boy in utter limbo as he faced fire financial strait.

HOW PRINCE JIMMY ADETOKUNBO YEKINI-GOLOBA BECAME OSOLO-ELECT

The Snoop News Media can exclusively and authoritatively revealed how Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba beat 14 other Isolo royal princes to emerge as Osolo-elect.

For the British- trained optician, his quest to occupy the throne of his forefathers is perhaps a divine call to serve humanity through his selection as the next Osolo of Isolo after the demise of Oba Kabiru Adelaja Agbabiaka who joined his ancestors almost six months ago.

Following the passage of the last Osolo of Isolo, the pendulum thus shifted to Alagbeji Royal Family to produce the next monarch for the ancient Awori town. This came almost 40 years after the royal family had produced it's last Osolo of Isolo in His Royal Majesty, Oba Disu Akanni Olayiwola

Faronbi who died on June 30th 1984.

The race to produce the next Osolo thus began with the four branches of the family namely: Akinlagun, Ejoga Arowooye, Alabe and Apena being requested to forward names of eligibles princes from each of the branches.

From Akinlagun branch were Prince Abeeb Adeshina Kolawole Faronbi, the first son of Late Oba Disu Akanni Faronbi and the front-runner for the Mende/Anthony throne; Prince Biodun Shekoni, the last born of Chief Amuda Ejalonibu Faronbi and Prince Raheem Faronbi, the son of the Head of Apakun Osuro Chieftaincy Family.

Ejoga Arowooye had Prince Yahya Abiodun Lawal-Arowooye, the current Agbaakin of Isolo Kingdom; Prince Wasiu Alani Bello-Arowooye, the current Isolo Regeant; Prince Adams Akolawole Goloba, a senior public servant with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) and son of Late Akogun of Isolo; Prince Jabita Babajide Dada, an American based businessman from the lineage of the first Baale of Isolo, Baale Dada and Prince Shakirudeen Adeola Sadiq, the current Vice Chairman of Isolo LCDA and son of Late Osi of Isolo, Chief Ibrahim Sadiq.

Alabe branch of the Alagbeji Royal Family had Prince Saheed Ishola Aregbe (a.k.a SA 400), a businessman and the grandson of the Head of Akinbaiye Family, Chief Yahya Aregbe; Hon. Saheed Adekunle Aregbe (a.k.a SA 100), son of Chief Olushi of Isolo; Prince Kazeem Omotolani Faronbi (a.k.a E Don Tey), son of the Owobiyi Chieftaincy Family and Prince Ganiu Abegunde.

Apena branch produced Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba, son of former king Yekini Goloba; Prince Sulaimon Taiwo Apena, son of Late Chief Taiwo Apena and Prince Murphy Ajala, son of Alhaja Jarinatu Goloba.

At the end of an internal screening exercise, the names of all the 15 aspirants were forwarded by their respective branches to a 20-man screening committee headed by a former Member of House of Representatives (MHR) Hon. Hakeem Muniru.

The terms of reference of the committee among other things are to set selection criteria for the aspirants and rate them accordingly. The criteria include educational background, character attestation, lineage ancestry, community involvement and development project, health status and wellbeing as well as support and endorsement.

After an exhaustive screening session which lasted for about two weeks, the committee forwarded it's report on each of the 15 aspirants to the Kingmakers for consideration.

Isolo Kingdom has four statutory Kingmakers saddled with the task of appointing an Oba among the prince's from the ruling houses whenever the Osolo stool is declared vacant.

Having received the report of the screening committee, the Kingmakers nonetheless still subjected the aspirants to fresh rounds of scrutiny according to customs and traditions by inviting the Ifa Oracle priest for divine consultations and guidance.

Close sources revealed that in order to ensure credibility of the exercise, the priest reportedly requested for the involvement of more priests from within and around the community. A total of eight Ifa priests were in attendance in the presence of representatives of all aspirants and their branches.

After due consultation, five aspirants were reportedly dropped in the first stage of the screening exercise while another three were dropped from the second stage which left the scene open to only remaining seven aspirants from which the Kingmakers were expected to vote for their choice.

Those who made it through to the final stage of the exercise according to dependable sources include Prince Biodun Shekoni, Prince Raheem Faronbi, Prince Yahya Lawal Arowooye, Prince Shakirudeen Sadiq, Prince Saheed Ishola Aregbe and Prince Jimmy Yekini-Goloba.

At the end, it was reliably gathered that two out of the four Kingmakers voted for Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba. One voted for Prince Biodun Shekoni while the remaining Kingmaker reportedly abstained from voting.

However, all the four Kingmakers unanimously approved the selection of Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba as the Osolo-elect.

The Kingmakers who midwived the voting exercise  include: Chief Mukaila Adesegun Agbabiaka who represents Jagun Aluko arm of the Kingmakers; Chief Rahman Mustapha (aka Inufele) who represents Afobaje Ogodo; Chief Rasak Onikosi of Osuro Kingmaker family; and Chief Saka Omotoba from Omotoba Kingmaker family.

Expectedly, the Kingmakers will submit their report to the Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Otunba Bayo Olasoju, who in turn would forward same to Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for due consideration to kick-start preparation for the installation ceremony of the new king.

INJUSTICE! How Sanwo-Olu Took Over Taylor Family’s N8bn Land Without Paying Compensation

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olushola Sanwo-olu has come under scathing criticism following his decision to take over a large expanse of land belonging to the E.J.A. Kehinde Taylor Family worth over N8 billion.

Worse still, the governor does not want to pay any compensation.

According to Segun Taylor, the Kehinde Family’s legal representative, the government is using its machinery to victimise the family by confiscating their land located at Abule Taylor along Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, in Ijaiye-Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the state, measuring approximately 80,880.00 square metres.

As of May 2021, the value of the property was N8,091,545,400. But when divided into land and improvements thereon, the land was worth N7,641,545,400 and the buildings N450,000,000, according to a valuation report prepared by Joe Akhigbe and Associates.

The land previously hosted factories owned and operated by the family’s tenants, including John Holt and Unilever, until the companies exhausted their tenanted periods. Then crisis started when some miscreants sponsored by a faction of the Oniyanru Family disrupted the peace on the property and evicted the family-employed private security agents from the place.

The problem became full blown, however, when the government turned its eyes to the land and decided to construct a public facility on it in the public interest.

FAMILY OWNERSHIP HISTORY

The Taylor Family had been in control and ownership of the land since 1912 when it was first registered with the Lagos Lands Registry. By succession, the ownership of the land was vested in Segun’s grandfather (Eusebius James Alex Taylor, popularly known as E.J.A. Taylor) vide a Deed of Conveyance dated September 27, 1943. This legal document was registered as No 105 at page 105 in volume 631 of the Register of Deeds domiciled at the state land registry.

In 1976, the ownership of the land devolved on E.J.A. Taylor’s five children, including Kehinde Taylor, via a mutual partition. Kehinde was Segun’s father. In exercise of their ownership rights, Kehinde’s children had been leasing the property out to interested corporate concerns over the years without any adverse claim.

It was learnt that the family leased a portion of the land to the colonial administration in Nigeria in 1938 for the construction of its Cocoa Regeneration Plant. In the 1970s, the family also leased the said property to John Holt, resulting in the building of factory warehouses on the land by the company.

It was also learnt that the family had never faltered in its financial obligation to the state in terms of tenement rates and other required charges. Not only that, the state had once formally commended them via a letter of commendation on the prompt payments of all statutory dues. Every correspondence of the government in respect of the land had always been directed to the family and nobody else.

All of this attested to the fact that there had never been any doubt on the ownership of the land by the Taylor Family, Segun revealed.

LAND RECOVERY BATTLE
After some sponsored miscreants invaded the land in 2016, the Lagos State Task Force on Land Grabbers was petitioned. Its intervention led to the lock-up of the fenced property. The problem was later tamed, and the family requested the authorities to restore them to the property. But this request, made several times by a broad range of family stakeholders, did not amount to any success. This transpired during the administration of former governor Akinwumi Ambode.
On December 20, 2018, the family filed a case before the Ikeja division of the Lagos State High Court in case number ID/773/LMW/18, challenging the continued lock-up of their property by the state. Nearly a year after, exactly on November 28, 2019, the government, represented in the case by the office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and the Lagos State Government as defendants, conceded that the land rightly belonged to the family.
While the premises was locked by the task force and left insecure, the land grabbers were still having unchallenged access to it, thoroughly vandalising the buildings, particularly by removing and stealing the long-span aluminum roofing sheets of the multi-purpose industrial warehouses, and and looting some industrial equipment, resulting in its present deplorable state of ruins.
When a change of government occurred in 2019, the Ministry of Justice, led by Moyosore Onigbanjo, then attorney-general, told the family that its report had validated the family’s ownership of the land and that at would be handed over to them.
“In the conversations that preceded the terms of settlement, the government representatives acknowledged the vandalism that had taken place. But they said they were not going to compensate us for that and we did not bother. We just wanted to take back our property,” Segun said.
This then necessitated the filing of a terms of settlement, which was accordingly adopted as the judgement of the court. “The defendants hereby agree to deliver possession of the claimants’ warehouse industrial complex at Plots 412/420 Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, Abule Egba, Lagos, covered by Deeds of Partition Nos: 7/7/1543 and 11/11/1543 dated the 18th day of February 1976 since the 28th day of September, 2016 to the claimants on Friday, 13th December, 2019,” the judgement read in part.
Segun informed that subsequent to the conclusion of the case, the government indicated interest in paying the family compensation in order to lawfully take over the land.
“At least three sources within the government circle have credibly told me that the Ambode government made an offer of N5 billion to be paid to us. But the people that were interfacing with us said it was N3 billion. Yet we said we were ready to accept that.”

SHOCKING TWIST
Expectedly, the amicable resolution of the case provided some respite to the family and they were excited to take possession of their prized property. But this excitement was terminated by the state yet again. This time around, it seemed like a victimisation as the government appeared ready to expropriate the land without compensation.

Five months after the judgement, the government of Babajide Sanwo-Olu surprisingly served a notice of revocation of title of the family over the land “for overriding public interest.”
“We were joyful that our birthright had been restored to us after fighting hard for it,” Segun informed. “But to our shock, the government brought a revocation notice personally signed by Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu asking us to deliver up the premises.”
The notice read in part, “NOW THEREFORE, in the exercise of the powers conferred on me pursuant to section 28 of the Land Use Act, I, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, hereby give notice to the holder(s) revoking the existing rights of occupancy in the said land with effect from the date of service of this notice for the reason given above.”
CCTV footage showing state agents taking over the property in 2022.
On October 21, 2022, dozens policemen attached to the task force and government officials evicted all the private security guards attached to the premises by the family. CCTV footage obtained by FIJ showed a mix of armed state security operatives and government personnel and a total of five patrol vehicles, one BRT bus and a car, on the day the asset was taken over.

A RETURN TO COURT AND ‘FOUL PLAY’
The dramatic turn of events forced the family to return to court to file a fundamental rights enforcement lawsuit against the government. Sued as respondents in the suit filed as ID/13980MFHR/2022 are the state government, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
Four substantive reliefs were sought from the court in the case. They family were asking the court to invalidate their forceful eviction from the property and uphold their right to be duly compensated.
“A declaration that the applicants are entitled to prompt payment of adequate compensation, in line with the Valuation Report dated 8th May 2021, which describes the value of the property, when the applicants’ industrial warehouse complex was compulsorily acquired for overriding public purpose by the Respondents,” the second relief sought by the Segun’s family from the court read.
In the course of the new litigation, interesting episodes played out. The government lawyers raised not less than two objections at separate times against the propriety of the suit, asking the court to dismiss it because it was “an abuse of court process”. The government claimed that some other families, lying claim to the ownership of the land, had filed separate lawsuits against the state and it would amount to an abuse of the law for the court to continue with the Taylor family’s case. Justice O.A. Okunnuga rejected both preliminary objections on December 5, 2022 and February 2, 2023.

In a February 2, 2023 ruling against the objections, the court affirmed that the consent judgement was a subsisting court and to which the state and its institutions are bound. Referencing a paragraph in the judgement, the judge stated that, “From the above, it will appear that title to land was impliedly vested in the Claimants [the family], which led to the grant of possession in favour of the Claimants and this is still subsisting as the Consent Judgement has not been set aside by any Court.”
In March 2023, the Ministry of Justice wrote to the court that they wanted to consolidate the case with other matters. But the law disallowed a consolidation of fundamental rights cases with any other action or another fundamental rights action, according to Olalekan Ojo, the litigants’ lawyer.
“The ministry further wrote to the Chief Judge of Lagos for the matter to be withdrawn from the judge. Suddenly, the chief judge withdrew the case and has not re-assigned it to another judge. More than a year later, the case is still in limbo,” Ojo said. “This runs foul of the law because fundamental rights cases only have a lifespan of just six months.”

Olalekan Ojo, the lawyer representing the family, thinks the file transfer was part of the state’s grand method of frustrating the family and denying them justice.
“I believe that the Ministry of Justice had seen that their case was not going in their expected direction and that was why they engineered the withdrawal of the case file from the presiding judge,” Ojo said. “The case was already nearing the hearing stage before it was withdrawn from the judge. Since that time, the case has not been re-assigned to another judge.”
This sequence of events has left many questions unanswered in the minds of the family.
It was observed during a visit to the area on July 16 that LAMATA appears to be in active occupation of the asset. The entrance gate was closed, but its security guards were on the ground watching over premises while some buses were parked inside.
Attempts to get the government’s comment on this story were unsuccessful. Gbenga Omotosho, the commissioner for information, neither answered his call on Friday and Monday, nor responded to text messages sent as of press time. The same message, sent to him on WhatsApp, was not responded to.

Computer Village Traders Battle Sade Tinubu Over Extortion

. Set To Enforce Court Order

In a landmark decision, the Incorporated Trustees of Computer Village Market Traders and Stakeholders Joint Management have successfully obtained a court order against the Iyaloja-General of Lagos, Chief (Mrs.) Folasade Tinubu-Ojo.

The court has issued a cease and desist letter, restricting her from further interference and alleged extortion activities within the Computer Village Market.

The letter, dated August 28, 2024, was formally drafted on behalf of the market’s stakeholders by Falana & Falana Chambers.

It addresses multiple breaches of rights and interference in the market’s affairs, including the instigation of thugs and unauthorized collection of levies.

The stakeholders, comprising various associations such as the Phone and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (PAPDA), Computer and Allied Products Dealers of Nigeria, Computer Technician and Engineers Association of Nigeria (COMTEAN), Association of Computer Engineers and Technicians of Nigeria and Association of Computer Printers Engineering of Lagos (ACPEL).

This development comes amidst ongoing discussions about the potential relocation of the Computer Village Market by the Lagos State Government. The stakeholders remain resolute in safeguarding the market’s operations and ensuring that their rights are upheld. This court order marks a significant step in their efforts to maintain the integrity and stability of the Computer Village Market.

Pastor, Wife, Son, Three Others Arrested Over Death Of Female Student

The Nigeria Police have paraded a popular pastor, his wife, son and three other over the killing of a health college student in Kwara State.

Among those arrested are popular prophet, Pastor Adebayo Adeniyi, more commonly called Prophet Ogunse, and his wife, the parents of the primary suspect, Adebayo Joshua Happiness.

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested and paraded six suspects accused of being involved in the murder of Ogungbenro Blessing, a female student from the College of Health and Technology in Offa.

It was gathered that the couple was apprehended after attempting to tamper with evidence by retrieving their son’s belongings from his school.

Parading the suspects recently, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, disclosed that Adebayo Joshua Happiness had invited Awesu Mojisola to attend a purported sign-out party at Whitefield Hotel, Ilorin, Kwara State, promising her N15,000.

The CP, while parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters in Ilorin, said that on August 13, 2024, at about 1500 hours, the Offa Police Station received a report from Ogungbenro Blessing, a female resident of the Gbomi Area in Offa, Kwara State.

He stated, "She reported that her roommate, Awesu Mojisola, a 21-year-old graduating student of Kwara State College of Health Technology, had gone missing under suspicious circumstances."

"The incident occurred on August 9, 2024, at about 1500 hours when Awesu Mojisola received a phone call from Kolawola Timileyin, a female student from the same institution."

He said Timileyin relayed a message from Adebayo Joshua Happiness, an expelled final-year student of Summit University, Offa, Kwara State.

The suspects were identified as Adebayo Joshua Happiness (male), Adebayo Adeniyi (male), Adeniyi Bukola (female), Adeoye Adeola (male), Lawal Aminat (female), and Bulus Peter (male).

Items recovered include an iPhone 11 Pro.

Adebayo Joshua Happiness invited Awesu Mojisola to the sign-out party at Whitefield Hotel, Ilorin, Kwara State, with the promise of Fifteen Thousand Naira (N15,000). Mojisola accepted the invitation and left Offa for Ilorin later that day.

However, upon arrival in Ilorin, Mojisola contacted her friends, expressing discomfort and concern as there appeared to be no sign-out party.

According to the CP, "Instead, she reported being alone in a hotel room with Adebayo Joshua Happiness, who was reportedly smoking cannabis. Subsequently, her phone became unreachable, and her whereabouts were unknown."

Acting swiftly on the report, the investigation by officers of the command led to the arrest of Adebayo Joshua Happiness.

The police commissioner explained that preliminary findings revealed that Adebayo Joshua Happiness had deliberately lured Awesu Mojisola to Ilorin under false pretenses, booking a hotel room around 1800 hours with no intention of hosting a party.

"Further investigation uncovered that at about 2345 hours on the same day, Adebayo Joshua Happiness booked an additional room at the same hotel for another female, possibly as a cover-up for his premeditated actions."

Hounded South African Beauty Queen Wins Miss Universe

After being hounded over her nationality and forced to drop out of the Miss South Africa beauty contest, Chidimma Adetshina has been crowned beauty queen of a totally different country.

Ms Adetshina cried tears of joy as she was named Miss Universe Nigeria on Saturday.

"This crown is not just for beauty; it's a call for unity," the 23-year-old law student stated after weeks at the centre of an intense media storm.

She was invited to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria after her position as a finalist in the Miss South Africa contest sparked a wave of xenophobic criticism

Some people in South Africa had questioned her eligibility to compete in the beauty pageant because despite being a South African citizen, Ms Adetshina's father is Nigerian and her mother has Mozambican roots.

In interviews, Ms Adetshina said she was born in Soweto - the South African township next to Johannesburg - and grew up in Cape Town.

The row over her nationality sparked an investigation with the organisers of Miss South Africa asking the nation's home affairs department to look into her eligibility.

After an initial probe, the department announced that Miss Adetshina's mother may have committed "identity theft" to become a South African national.

However, the statement added that Ms Adetshina "could not have participated in the alleged unlawful actions of her mother as she was an infant at the time".

A day after the announcement, Ms Adetshina dropped out of the contest, saying she took the decision for her and her family's safety and wellbeing.

By now, her ordeal had made headlines around the world.

After hearing of Ms Adetshina's story, the organisers of Miss Universe Nigeria invited her to participate in their contest.

They said she would be able to "represent her father's native land on the international stage".

After winning the contest on Saturday, Ms Adetshina will represent Nigeria at November's Miss Universe competition.

Her success has been celebrated on social media.

"Your story is inspirational - you are stronger than you think and we love you our African sister," one South African woman wrote on Instagram.

Another supporter said: "Trust me guys we Nigerians are proud of her... she’s our very own sister, a very smart, intelligent girl, our Nigerian blood runs through her veins."

However, others alleged the contest was "rigged" in Ms Adetshina's favour - an accusation the Miss Nigeria organisers have not responded to.

"She's undeserving," one Instagram user said.

"She has never lived in Nigeria and was merely invited to compete after the final delegates had been chosen... she arrived in Nigeria for the first time after 20 years last week, only to be given our crown. This organisation reeks of sheer bias."

Another wrote: "In all honesty you won out of pity... feeling very sorry for the other contestants who were there long before you came."

At the Miss Universe contest in November, the law student's rivals will include Mia le Roux, who won this year's Miss South Africa competition after Ms Adetshina dropped out.

Ms le Roux became the first deaf woman in history to win the crown.

161 Nigerian Students Denied Entry Into UK

Between 2021 and 2023, 1,425 international students admitted to UK universities were denied entry at the country’s airports.

Among those affected, 161 were Nigerians, who were turned away upon arrival, according to data obtained from the UK Home Office through the Freedom of Information Act.

Indian students were the most affected, making up 45% of the total with 644 removals. Nigerians followed with 11.3%, while students from Ghana and Bangladesh represented 6.46% and 6.32% respectively.

The data, covering October 2021 to October 2023, specifically addresses students refused entry at the border and does not account for those deported for visa violations like exceeding work hours or academic misconduct. The Home Office did not clarify the reasons for these removals.

However, sources suggest students were often removed due to failing to convince Border Force officers during checks, presenting forged documents, or struggling with English.

Immigration lawyer Dele Olawanle criticized this practice, arguing that Border Force officers have taken on roles beyond their remit by questioning students about their academic courses, sometimes leading to visa cancellations.

Data analyst Nelly Okechukwu shared a similar experience, recounting how he was questioned about his university studies by a border officer after a long flight, despite having graduated years earlier.
