By Lanre Olaleye
Facts have revealed how Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu recorded a total of 1271 votes to emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary held between 6th and 8th June 2022 at the Eagles Square, Abuja. The breakdown analysis of the total votes has further revealed the efforts of Tinubu's associates across the country in galvanizing a landslide victory for the APC National Leader.
South-west:
Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Sen. Babafemi Ojudu proved his mettle as a strong supporter of Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo as he delivered Ekiti State to the Vice President as Asiwaju could only muster 5 votes out of the 48 delegate votes on offer at the primary.
Though, Gov. Kayode Fayemi pledged his support to Asiwaju after his last minute withdrawal, it is however not certain if his support really reflect on the voting pattern from Ekiti State.
It was all squared in Ogun State as Gov. Dapo Abiodun could not deliver majority votes for the Vice President as the coalition of Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, Dimeji Bankole and Gbenga Daniel ensured the votes were tied at 30 apiece.
However, it was victory all the way for Asiwaju in Lagos with 55 votes out 60 even as the 5 disident votes is being investigated by the party heirarchy in the state.
It was a similar victory in Osun, Ondo and Oyo States were the efforts of Sen. Teslim Folarin, Sen. Soji Akanbi and others largely accounted for Asiwaju's victory.

South-south:
Transportation Minister, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi proved he was truly at home in the South-south as he recorded majority of the votes from the region to beat other aspirants including Asiwaju, who could only win two out of the six states of the region. But the duo of former party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and Delta States gubernatorial candidate, Omo-Agege should be credited for delivering both Edo and Delta States to Asiwaju.
Oshiomhole delivered 40 out of the 54 delegate votes from Edo to Tinubu while Omo-Agege also recorded 40 votes out of 75 votes on offer.

South-east:
It was a mis-match for the APC presidential candidate in the South-east as he could only garner a paltry 10 votes across the six states of the region. Despite the presence of APC stalwarts in the region such as Labour & Employment Minister, Ngige; Ogbonnaya Onu and former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, the South-eastern region has proven once again that it belongs to the PDP.
Ngige and others couldn't deliver any of the South Eastern States to Tinubu.
Interestingly, Gov. David Umahi, who is also an aspirant in the presidential primary got 38 votes out of the 39 delegate votes all to himself in Ebonyi, leaving Asiwaju with one vote only.

Prior to the presidential primary, there were doubts that Tinubu is faced with strong opposition in the North-east particularly with the presence Senate President, Ahmad Lawan in the region. He won the majority votes in Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno and Taraba. He lost only in Lawan's home state, Yobe where he got only 5 votes out of 51.
Special mention should be made about the contribution of the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, Nuru Ribadu, Yakubu Dogara, Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno, Inuwa Yaya and Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha for mobilizing support across the region for the former Lagos State Governor.

North-west:
To say North-west is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's support base, is to say the least. It is Tinubu's flagship region. It is the only region in the country that gave him majority votes across board without conceding any state to any aspirants. Out of the available 558 available delegate votes, the region delivered 414 votes to Tinubu.
This does not come as a surprise as the duo of Gov. Nasir El-Rufai and Abdullahi Ganduje are the Chief Campaigners of Asiwaju in the region. Together with the support of their compatriot governors, Masari, Mattawale, Bagudu and Badaru, the six governors posted convincing majority across the six North-west states.
