Tinubu stated on Thursday in Abeokuta that he deserves to lead the nation because he helped President Buhari win the 2015 presidential election.
His remark has, however, created ripples with some section of the media implying arrogance against President Muhamadu Buhari.
Tinubu stated in a statement released on yesterday that his statements were taken out of context and were not intended to be disrespectful to the President.
He stated that replies implying he was disrespectful were dramatic and wrong.
"Some segments of the media have grossly misconstrued remarks I made on Thursday in Abeokuta, the capital of the state of Ogun." He stated.
"It is crucial that people understand exactly what I have stated and where I stand, i will make no apologies for seeking the party’s nomination."In an effort to fulfill media deadlines, rather than carefully analyzing what I said, they translated it so rapidly that it was wrong.
"My respect and admiration for President Buhari as the nation's Commander-in-Chief and as a person are high and unwavering. I will never degrade him.
"In Abeokuta, I did not behave in this manner.
"It is inconceivable that I would defame the leader of the party whose flag I intend to carry in the future. It makes no sense to act in such a crude and impolite manner.
"Never will I diminish myself by disparaging the president or his office. I would not dare run for office and treat it with contempt. " He concluded.
