ANDREW NOT NICE!

Arrested BRT Driver Speaks On Oluwabamise's Murder

. Says Kidnappers Held Him At Gun-point

By Lanre Olaleye

More facts are beginning to emerged on the abduction and murder of Toyosi Oluwabamise Ayanwola who was recently killed by kidnappers in Lagos.

Oluwabamise got missing while returning to Ota from Ajah on February 26 when she boarded a BRT bus with registration number 240257 going to Oshodi at about 7pm at Chevron Bus-Stop.

The victim, who worked as a fashion designer in Ajah spent her weekends in Ota, Ogun State, with her sister, had sent some voice notes to a friend when she sensed danger on the bus.

Her corpse was later found lying on Carter Bridge by Ogogoro community in Lagos Island with some parts of her body removed.

Following public outrage, the driver of the BRT bus named Andrew Nice was arrested by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) who apprehended him at his hideout.

The arrest of the bus driver and his interrogation by the police has however, thrown more light on the murder case.

In a trending video interview with the suspect, the driver denied involvement in the gruesome murder of Oluwabamise.

Rather, he claimed he was held at gun-point by the kidnappers and asked to cooperate or he gets killed.

Contrary to earlier report, the driver confirmed picking the deceased at Chevron Bus Stop but disclosed that he picked up the kidnappers (three men and a lady) at Agungi Bus Stop.

He revealed that as soon as the kidnappers entered the bus, one of them pointed a gun at him and asked him to cooperate or he would be forced to shoot him.

"I picked the girl at Chevron and I picked the other three men at Agungi. When those guys showed me the weapon as I said, fears have gone in me. I became fear. Whatever the man on gun tells me was what I was gonna do.

"When I followed that Carter Bridge, they ordered me to stop. They asked to open the door. After I opened the door, they now start dragging her down. When I saw her crying for help, actually I was helpless. I thought she was still holding on to the iron rail inside the bus so I moved on," he explained.

Asked when he was arrested, he replied: "Lastnight where I ran to because I was afraid since the issue started."

Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appealed to Lagosians to remain calm as the police continue investigation on the gruesome murder of the 21 year-old Oluwabamise.

In a press statement issued yesterday, the governor assured he would ensure Oluwabamise gets justice.

"We will therefore leave no stone unturned in the investigations and arrest of everyone found culpable in the kidnap and death of Miss Oluwabamise Ayanwola.

"The driver of the BRT bus involved in this unfortunate incident has been arrested, and the management of Lagos Bus Service Ltd have been directed to cooperate fully with security agencies in their investigations, so that the full weight of the law is brought down on everyone involved in this ugly incident.

"To Oluwabamise’s family and loved ones, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time, may the Almighty God console you. I hereby give you my word that JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED.

"To fellow Lagosians, I assure you that I am following all the investigations closely, and will ensure that Oluwabamise gets the justice she deserves.

"I also assure you all that the BRT services remain safe, despite this condemnable act.

"Once again, my sincere condolences to the Ayanwola family.

"May Oluwabamise’s soul Rest In Peace. Amen."
