It was praises galore for veteran journalist and popular television anchor, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju as he bagged two awards at the annual lecture and award event of The Gazelle News.com.The annual award ceremony held at D'Podium Event Centre, Aromire Avenue, Ikeja on Thursday 17th March 2022 drew a large crowd of the creme de la creme from all works of life.
Though, the most prestigious award of the day was won by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Lifetime Achievement Award category but the star of the night was unarguably Kolade-Otitoju who got standing ovation for winning Journalist of the Year award and Television Programme of the Year award with Journalists Hangout-a popular discussion programme on TVC.
To demonstrate his popularity among television viewers, the former Editor of The News magazine was joined on the podium by a large entourage of admirers which included delegations from Lagos, Osun and Borno state governments.
A seasoned journalist and arguably Nigeria's most popular, daring and courageous newsman has consistently captivated television viewers with concise and incisive analysis and views on national discuss which sometimes drawn haters and admirers alike.
Often times, BKO as he is often called had become establishment enemy number one due to his expository commentary which are often based on truth much to the chagrin of the ruling government. His no hold-barred attitude of presenting truth and facts as demanded by ethics of journalism has saw him being profiled as a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
This, according to him is not true. Rather, he remains apolitical and detribalized Nigerian desirous of positive national development of the country in all facets of life. "You can't make a habit of speaking the truth without stepping on toes, without being hated, without being challenged.
"I've been challenged so many times by people in government, I've been harassed, I've been threatened, I've been a subject of insult to people I will describe as 'Cyber Thugs' hired by politicians, hired or paid by people even in the military," he said.
However, the choice of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Lifetime Achievement Award according to the publisher of The Gazelle News, Musbau Razak was an obvious one as he has continued to becloud the political sphere like a colossus. "An enigma, a visionary leader and fisher of great men, the successful stint he had with oil giants, Mobil equipped him for success in politics.
"Asiwaju deployed a hybrid of corporate principles of giving primacy to competence and delegation of authorities to political lieutenants to thrive within their spheres of authority," Razak enthused.
