NONSENSE! Charly Boy Slams Oba of Benin For Hailing Tinubu

Says: 'This one leave him palace to come yarn nonsense for Lagos'

By Lanre Olaleye

Foremost Afrobeat musician, Charles Oputa a.k.a. Charly Boy has dragged the Oba of Benin, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ewuare II over the monarch's remark on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The highly revered monarch recently paid a visit to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu at State House, Marina during which he hailed the governor for his good works in the state.

During the visit, the monarch also eulogized President Bola Tinubu and described his ascension to the presidency as divined. The monarch was quoted to have said:

"God has ordained that Tinubu would become President of Nigeria. We are all one. I am for peace and tranquility. We must live together as one. Nigeria is big. We must iron out our differences and learn to live together as one, big family."

However, the Oba's remark seems to have drew the ire of the Afrobeat musician.

Reacting to the monarch's comment, Charly Boy via his IG page, wrote: ''See Oba wey no suppose leave him Palace travel come lagos. Which kain nonsense talk Oba of Benin dey yarn? God ordain Tinubu as Nigerian President?

"Come ooo, who dey sponsor the Oba, dis one leave him palace to come yarn nonsense for Lagos, e get why. Nobody get time for useless talk like dis.

"APC dem don tamper with him sense. Make we shine our eye well-well before dem turn our tradition into political playground. Na serious matter I dey talk!

"Nonsense everywhere.

Dia fathers.''

PRISONER OF CONSCIENCE! Emefiele Remains In Prison

 . Despite Being Granted Bail

By Lanre Olaleye

Despite being granted bail by an Abuja Federal High Court, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele is still in prison.

Emefiele was recently granted bail in the sum of N300m and must provide two sureties, one of whom must own a landed property in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

At yesterday's resumed hearing of the corruption charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the former CBN Governor was escorted to the court by EFCC officials- an indication that he was still in the custody of the anti- corruption operatives.

Findings by The Snoop revealed that the former CBN Governor was yet to perfect one of his bail conditions which is the payment of the sum of N300m.

Emefiele reportedly declined to pay the bail bond. He purportedly questioned where the court expect him to get the money from. "I will rather be jailed than to pay N300m bail conditions," Emefiele was quoted to have said after the court ruled on his bail application by his counsel, Mathew Burkaa (SAN).

His hardline stance came as a surprise to many who felt the embatted former CBN Governor could afford to pay the bail bond judging from the humongous amount of money involved in his corruption charges.

Emefiele had been charged with six modified counts of fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In front of Justice Hamza Muazu, Emefiele was charged as follows: That you, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, male, adult…

1. Corruptly confer an advantage on Sa’adatu Ramallan Yaro, a staff of the CBN, by awarding contract for the supply of 37 Hilux vehicles at cost of ₦854.7m in 2018

2. Corruptly confer an advantage on a company where a CBN Staff is a director by awarding a contract for the supply of one Toyota Avallon at the cost of ₦99.0m

3. Conferring corrupt advantage contrary to Section 16 of ICPC Act Toyota Landcruiser V8 in 2019 at the cost of ₦73.0m

4. Illegal award for the supply of Toyota Land cruiser V8: ₦73.8m

5. Award of contract for supply of 2 Toyota Hilux in 2020: ₦44.2m

6. Illegal purchases of 43 vehicles between 2018 & 2020: ₦1.2bn.

The case was adjourned by the court until January 18, 2024.

TOP TARGET! Osimhen Open To Chelsea Move

Chelsea are set to make Victor Osimhen their primary target when they enter the market for a striker, with Italian sources expecting the Napoli forward to be open to a move to Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino wants to add a centre-forward to his squad in future windows, with Osimhen at the top of his list after his three seasons in Serie A where he has helped Napoli win the Scudetto.

The Nigeria international, 24, is expected to have an asking price of more than £100 million and could break the Premier League record of £106.8 million paid by Chelsea for Enzo Fernandez, which could make a January deal difficult but it is a position Pochettino wants to fill long-term.

Chelsea have a link with Osimhen through Kalidou Koulibaly, who left the club in the summer for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia but has friends at the club. He is close to Osimhen, who was a team-mate at Napoli when the striker arrived from Lille in 2020.

Difficult relationship with Napoli

Osimhen’s relationship with Napoli has been tested this season, with his representatives threatening legal action over a video posted on an official club TikTok account that mocked their own player. According to Italian sources, Chelsea would be a club the player would consider should he move away from Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

His deal taking him to Napoli three years ago was widely reported to be worth around €70 million to Lille but also saw youth players move in the opposite direction. With one full season left on his contract at Napoli, he would still earn them a huge profit on a player who was also at Wolfsburg in Germany and Belgian club Charleroi before moving to France.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis spoke last month about the relationship between the player and club insisting that it is “entirely out of place” that there is tension between the two parties. They have changed managers this season, with Walter Mazzarri, the former Watford head coach, taking charge after the departure of Rudi Garcia. Napoli defeated Atalanta 2-1 this weekend with Osimhen coming off the bench for his first appearance in six weeks following a hamstring problem.

Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson, 22, from Villarreal in the summer and the Senegal striker has scored seven goals this season so far. Pochettino also has Christopher Nkunku returning from injury who can play centrally, even if he is more of a deep-lying forward.

Armando Broja, 22, also adds to his striker options but there is still an appetite to have a No 9 added to the squad. Osimhen has six goals in 11 appearances in this campaign after ending Napoli’s wait for the title last season.

When the officers revealed what she did, she replied: “Who saw that?”

One cop said: “A couple of people.”

Revels-Glick then denied it and started acting out what she was apparently doing, which she said was just lying on the towel. Officers did not believe her and asked to search through her bag.

“This is really highly offensive to me,” Revel-Glick said before coming clean and said, “It is my vibrator, I was sitting on the beach and I… okay do I get a ticket?”

This was contained in statement, signed by the NDLEA's spokesman, Femi Babafemi, identifying those arrested as Ikotu Omolayo, Fola Olabode and Akorede Adunni Ajibola.

Babafemi noted that the main organiser of the unholy alliance drug party, a 30-year-old Gbemileke Adelola (aka BIG LHYNZ) was taken into custody on Sunday morning by NDLEA operatives.

He explained that the management of the Lounge had also been invited for further investigation.

The statement reads in part; “Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA on Saturday 25th November raided a lounge in Osogbo, the Osun state capital where a night party organised for illicit substance abuse was going to be held and arrested some of the organisers who were found with drug exhibits.

“The raid followed credible intelligence that some persons were going to hold a night party tagged Unholy Alliance for Stoners and Drunkards where different types of illicit substances were going to be sold and consumed by patrons.

"Soon after the organisers began to gather at Berrymist Lounge located in the Ofatedo area of Osogbo to start the party, NDLEA operatives swooped on them, arrested them, and recovered illicit substances of abuse and drug paraphernalia from them.

"Those arrested include Ikotu Omolayo, 25; Fola Olabode, 30, and Akorede Adunni Ajibola, 22. The management of the Lounge has also been invited for further investigation.

“This comes on the heels of an earlier raid on Thursday, November 23 at Area 5 forest reserve, Ile-Ife where operatives recovered 156kgs of cannabis sativa.

“Meanwhile, operatives in Ogun state on Friday 24th November arrested two suspects: Adamu Ibrahim and Nura Sani at Ileke trailer garage, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, where 859 kilograms of cannabis sativa concealed among bags of sugar in a truck for onward transportation to Mokwa, Niger State,” the statement added.

LOCKED OUT! Akeredolu's Wife, Son Prevented From Ondo Peace Meeting

By Lanre Olaleye

Ondo State First Lady, Betty Akeredolu and her son, Babajide were served a rude shock on Friday night when they were both prevented from attending the peace meeting initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve the lingering political crisis rocking the state.

The meeting which held at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock had the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, State Assembly Speaker, Oladiji Olamide alongside his fellow lawmakers, members of the state cabinet, APC leaders and elders in the state in attendance was about to start when Presidential aides politely told the First Lady and her son they were not on the official list of expected attendees of the meeting.

Betty, an influential member of Akeredolu's administration is a strong and respected voice in the lingering political crisis in the state. She alongside her son who is the Adviser and Director-General of Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit of the state had hope to present her husband's case at the meeting but was denied entry into the meeting by protocol officials at the presidency.

"She and her son were not on the official list of attendees. Hence, she was not allowed into the meeting," a presidential aide volunteered.

Asked if she could have been granted entry on self recognition. He added: "This is a political matter and it did not concern the First Lady in her official capacity."

However, in her absence, the meeting ended on happy note as President Tinubu successfully reconciled all the warring factions and enjoined them to embrace peace in the interest of the state and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

A major resolutions arrived at after nearly six hours of deliberations between the President and state officials was the decision to swear in the Deputy Governor as the Acting Governor following Akeredolu's indisposition following his ailing health status.

The Deputy Governor thereafter declared his decision to maintain the status quo and unite all the warring factions. He said, “I want to say that I pledge to all of you that I embrace every one of you. I put behind all that has happened before now. I’ve let go and also let God, just as the President has advised us.

“And I want to say that no offence, no guile in my mind whatsoever. All that has happened is politics. Impeachment is part of politics. If you survive it, it is also politics. It has come. I’ve survived it and every other thing is in the past."

The Speaker of the House, Olamide, who read the details of the resolution, said, “Our resolution is that one, we shall embrace peace. Secondly, there would be no more dissolution of the cabinet and the Deputy Governor would maintain status quo as far as the House of Assembly leadership is concerned."

SHOCKING! Buhari's PA Steals N1.6tr, Hides $275m In Six yr-old Son's Account

. As Emefiele Refunds N4tr, Lemo $500m

By Lanre Olaleye

Investigations into the alleged fraudulent practices of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele by the special investigator, Jim Osayande Obazee has thrown up shocking revelations involving Sabiu Yusuf (a.k.a. Tunde), erstwhile Personal Assistant (PA) to former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Snoop has exclusively gathered that the intensive grilling of Emefiele by the special investigative committee has led to the discovery of a whooping sum of N1.6trillion in one of the personal accounts of Tunde Sabiu, an influential figure in the former president's administration.

More worrying is the further discovery of yet another $275m hidden in the account of Sabiu's six year-old son deposited in a new generation bank.

Sources close to the investigators revealed Emefiele and his accomplices are co-operating with EFCC officials in recovering loots traced to them.

In this vein, the former CBN Governor has reportedly refunded a whopping N4 trillion to the coffers of the Federal Government stolen while he was the at the helm of affairs of the apex bank.

Aside returning N4 trillion, Emefiele has also allegedly gave up ownership of six banks linked to him.

In a related development, the source further revealed that a former CBN Deputy Governor, Tunde Lemo, also reportedly refunded $500 million embezzled tax-payers’ money.

The source revealed that faced with the humongous fraud linked to the former CBN Governor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deploying subtle persuasion and evidence to recover the loot.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently negotiating, using some influential Nigerians on how to refund the funds without being exposed.

“Only recently, National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, lamented that the current administration inherited a bankrupt country from the Buhari’s government due to the large scale looting that occurred then,” the source added

SINS OF A BILLIONAIRE! How Tinubu Stopped Dangote From Defrauding Nigeria To Fund Refinery

By Lanre Olaleye

When Nigeria commissioned Dangote Refinery in May 2023 many jumped for joy amid hopes of transforming the country into a net exporter of petroleum products, but today such joy has been shortlived by revelations of underhand schemes by the billionaire businessman to rip off the poor and down-trodden Nigerians.

From afar, Aliko Dangote cuts a perfect figure of a successful business man, a pride to Nigeria and the African continent at large. But close scrutiny have since revealed the dark and ugly side of the Chairman and CEO of the Dangote Group. From an humble beginning in 1991, the Kano-born businessman had risen to become African weathiest man with a net worth of $1.2bn garnered from lucrative ventures into foodstuffs, including pasta, sugar, salt, and wheat; cement; haulage; and other concerns.

However, the most ambitious projects that Dangote was involved in was the construction of a massive oil refinery in Lagos State. He spearheaded the project in 2013 in an effort to solve the fuel crisis in Nigeria, which, despite being a leading oil-producing country, had to import most of the refined petroleum products it needed.

But like the proverbial shylock, Dangote took advantage of the high level corruption riding the petroleum industry to perfect a grand scheme to build the oil refinery using funds provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). In a tripod-like plot, Dangote, according to findings had sought the cooperation of former president, Muhammadu Buhari to complete the refinery and thereafter grant him a crude oil operation license, a request which the former president expressly granted without due consultation with stakeholders in the oil industry. Buhari surreptitiously agreed to commission the refinery even when it was not fully completed with presidents of five African countries in attendance.he

He reportedly shared the details of his meeting with former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele and equally sought his support just as he allegedly convinced him that the successful completion of the refinery was of utmost priority to the former president. Thereafter, Emefiele literally handed over the country's treasury to Dangote by providing the needed fund. This much Emefiele alluded to during the official opening ceremony of the refinery in May when he informed that in ensuring the successful completion of the project, CBN provided over N125bn to cover the domestic currency requirements of the venture, while also ensuring the availability of foreign exchange to pay for the importation of some of the machinery.

He had projected that the Dangote Refinery could earn Nigeria foreign exchange savings of between $25bn and $30bn yearly, stressing that the impact of the savings would be directly reflected in Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves by reducing the pressure on the country’s balance of payments.

Given the processing capacity of 650,000 BPD, the CBN governor said the refinery was more than able to meet all of Nigeria’s domestic fuel consumption, which is about 450,000 barrels per day, while the excess production will be available for export.

Dangote and Emefiele had both projected the in-coming administration of President Bola Tinubu would support his grand scheme for continued funding of the oil refinery. But unknown to them, Tinubu and his egg heads have since uncovered the unholy scheme and therefore decided to stop further funding as well as revoking the application for exploration license earlier promised by Buhari.

Aside this, The Snoop gathered that Tinubu also directed total refund of funds made available to Dangote in respect of the oil refinery. The new twist reportedly jolted Dangote and therefore began moves to endear himself to the new president.

In his bid to appease the new president, Dangote reportedly dragged his fellow billionaire, Bill Gates to Abuja in order to persuade Tinubu to rescind his decision to clampdown on Dangote and his dream project.

HARSH! Everton Lose 10 Points After Breaching Financial Rules

Everton have received an immediate 10-point deduction after being found to have breached the Premier League's financial rules.

English top-flight clubs are permitted to lose £105m over three years, and an independent commission found Everton's losses to 2021-22 amounted to £124.5m.

The punishment is the biggest sporting sanction in the competition's history and leaves Everton 19th in the table.

The club said they were "both shocked and disappointed" and would appeal.

The Premier League referred Everton to an independent commission in March but did not reveal the specifics of the club's alleged breach.

That month, Everton posted financial losses for the fifth successive year after reporting a £44.7m deficit in 2021-22.

They admitted to being in breach of the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) for the period ending 2021-22, and the commission found in favour of the Premier League following a five-day hearing in October.

In a statement, Everton said: "The club does not recognise the finding that it failed to act with the utmost good faith and it does not understand this to have been an allegation made by the Premier League during the course of proceedings.

"Both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted.

"The club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules."

The points deduction comes at a time of significant uncertainty at Everton.

In September, owner Farhad Moshiri agreed to sell his 94% stake in the club to American investment fund 777 Partners. The takeover is going through the regulatory processes and, before this ruling, sources said it was on course to be completed by next month.

The club are in the process of building a new stadium on the banks of the River Mersey at Bramley-Moore Dock, which is due to open in late 2024.

 Appeal Court Sacks Kano Governor

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has nullified the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

Recall that a three-man panel of judges led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay had sacked Yusuf on September 20, 2023, by declaring 165,663 of his votes invalid.

The court said the votes were invalid because they were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Votes garnered by the governor who contested under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, were then reduced to 853,939, while those of Nasir Ganuwa of the All Progressives Congress, APC remained at 890,705.

The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Court then nullified the election of Yusuf, declaring the APC candidate the true winner of the March 18 poll.

Governor Yusuf filed an appeal at the appellate court seeking to set aside the verdict of the lower court.

Ruling on the matter, the Appeal Court upheld the ruling of the tribunal, saying the governor was not qualified to contest the poll.

According to the appeal court, Governor Yusuf was not a member of NNPP at the time the elections were conducted.

Justice Moore Adumein read the unanimous judgment that was greeted with thunderous jubilations which shook the court for several minutes

UNCOMMON GRACE! Lagos Police Without CP For Over A Month

. New Man Currently Attending Course Abroad

By Lanre Olaleye

The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police has been left unmanned for more than a month following the promotion of former Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa to rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Owohunwa who became Lagos CP early this year was among 11 others Commissioners of Police elevated to the next rank on 11th October 2023. Since his departure, no replacement has been named by the PSC.

This development, The Snoop gathered has left the Lagos Police Command unmanned for 33 days after Owohunwa's departure.

"This has never happened before in the history of the Lagos police command for it to operate without a substantive CP" a police source told our reporter.

When prodded to know what could be the reason for the delay in naming Owohunwa's replacement for over a month, multiple Police sources informed that the substantive replacement (name withheld) is currently attending course abroad and would only return in December.

Investigation, however, revealed that a new Lagos CP is already known but the police authority preferred to keep it a secret until his announcement is officially announced.

The incoming Lagos police boss, we gathered is a young and affarble Yoruba man from one of the South-west states. His ascension to the post of Lagos CP was described by one of our sources as an "uncommon grace" similar to that of the present Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun who held sway as Lagos CP between 2017 and 2019.

LSFA Crisis

FA Scribe Under Pressure To Save Embattled Chairman, Fouad Oki

By Lanre Olaleye

The crisis rocking the Lagos State Football Association is far from over as the secretary of the football association has reportedly come under intense pressure to exonerate the association chairman, Fouad Oki from blame.

Football stakeholders comprising of retired footballers, coaches, referees, administrators and agents had reportedly petitioned world football governing body (FIFA) over the impasse that has snowballed into the impeachment of it's chairman amidst allegation of maladministration and unilateral decisions.

The impeachment was greeted with the physical assault of the Vice Chairman, Olawale Gafar by Fouad Oki who blamed the former for instigating his suspension.

The stakeholders who were visibly enraged by the assault on the vice chairman purportedly petitioned FIFA who reportedly requested to be briefed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on the matter.

The Snoop exclusively gathered that the NFF has in turn asked the secretary of the association (name withheld) to furnish the federation with the full details of the matter.

However, sources close to the Ogunlana Drive office of the association exclusively informed our correspondent that interested parties including the embattled chairman, Fouad Oki have been  mounting pressures on the secretary not to indict the chairman in his report to the NFF.

Besides, sources further informed that close associates of the governor including APC stalwarts in the state have been scheming to offer the chairman some kind of soft-landing in it's current dilemma.

But such schemes have reportedly fell on the deaf ears of the governor who was said to have been further inundated by further complaints against the suspended football chairman. Aside his autocratic tendencies, Oki has also riled members of the football confraternity with his grand plot to effect structural changes in the football set up across the state.

Oki is said to be plotting to scrap the divisional set up and replace it with local government slots whereby each local council will be represented in an enlarge football congress which is contrary to the divisional arrangement contained in both FIFA and NFF statutes.

However, sources say this plot is aimed at allowing the embattled chairman to perpetuate himself in office by recruiting politicians from the 20 LGs and LCDAs across the state into the enlarged football congress.

Though, the plot has reportedly met brick wall from board members but the embattled football boss is determined to push it through.

Already registration form for local government football election has been offered for sale at the rate of N50, 000 while General Assembly members will pay N30, 000 even as Board members are expected to pay N70, 000 for each participant.

However, the ugly developments in the Lagos FA may have rubbed off on football activities in the state as club owners and administrators are not forthcoming in registering for the forthcoming FA Cup competition because of lack of trust on the part of the association.

This is coming against the backdrop of non commencement of the annual street soccer competitions which clubs have reportedly registered for as no commencement date have been fixed yet for the competition.

THRILLER ON THE BRIDGE!

Chelsea, Man City Play Out 4-4 Draw

Cole Palmer's stoppage-time penalty denied former club Manchester City victory in a thriller against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

In a game of the highest quality in treacherous conditions, fortunes swung both ways.

City thought they had the three points when Rodri's shot from the edge of the area touched off Thiago Silva past Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez with four minutes left.

Chelsea, showing superb resilience, were not to be denied and Palmer - a £40m summer signing from Pep Guardiola's side - stayed cool amid the mayhem to beat Ederson from the spot to leave City just a point clear of Liverpool at the Premier League summit.

The reigning champions led in contentious fashion after 25 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for Marc Cucurella's pull on Erling Haaland, despite Chelsea's protests that the full-back had been fouled first.

Haaland dispatched the penalty with ease, but the hosts were level four minutes later when Brazil centre-back Silva glanced home Conor Gallagher's corner at the near post.

Chelsea turned the game around when Raheem Sterling also scored against his former club after 37 minutes, turning in Reece James' cross after Josko Gvardiol's mistake.

City, though, levelled on the stroke of half-time when the unmarked Manuel Akanji headed in Bernardo Silva's cross.

Two minutes after the break City went in front again when Haaland scrambled in Julian Alvarez's cross at the far post.

Yet Chelsea again battled back and deservedly drew level in the 67th minute when Nicolas Jackson pounced after Ederson pushed out Gallagher's low drive.

Guardiola's side thought they had won it with Rodri's stroke of good fortune - until the late penalty drama capped an entertaining, eventful encounter.

Defender Ruben Dias was penalised for a foul on Chelsea substitute Armando Broja and Palmer's calm finish left honours even.

Chelsea Argentine boss will understandably be dissatisfied with conceding four goals at home, even against a side of City's threat and calibre, but Chelsea showed quality and huge reserves of character to come from behind three times.

It was a measure of the improvement that can finally be seen in the side under Pochettino and they must take great confidence from the performance and result.

Just days after being left out of the England squad once again by manager Gareth Southgate, forward Sterling was outstanding as a scorer and creator, his constant running and skill on the ball a problem for City throughout.

And Palmer again demonstrated what he has added to Chelsea since his arrival from City with that late, late penalty.

The 21-year-old's arrival has certainly been Chelsea's gain and he has been a real bright spot despite their indifferent early-season results.

On this evidence, the club are on the right track under Pochettino - even if there have been bumps in the road.

City show vulnerable side as leads slip

City played a full part in one of the outstanding games of this season but will surely leave Stamford Bridge nursing a sense of disappointment.

They led on three separate occasions so this will feel like two points lost rather than one gained.

It would have been harsh on either side had they lost following a game containing such rich quality.

Yet City will believe they should have got a 10th league victory this season over the line, having lost the lead three times and the last occasion being the Palmer penalty conceded deep into eight minutes of added time.

Chelsea attempted to match City's intensity with their tactics and the champions looked vulnerable at the back throughout, never holding their lead comfortably at any time.

Haaland, inevitably, was on target twice and while City always looked dangerous going forward they were uncertain at the back.

Their lead at the top of the Premier League table is slender at just one point and sets up a momentous meeting with Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on Saturday November 25 when the Premier League resumes after the international break.

ROYALE RUMBLE!

 DANGOTE, ISHAKU RABIU FIGHT DIRTY

Billionaires Aliko Dangote and Ishaku Rabiu are locked in a war of attrition over the fate of their companies.

Dangote, the cement and sugar magnate had accused the BUA Group Chairman of undermining his businesses through false information and negative reports in the media.

The management of Dangote Industries Limited, DIL, therefore refuted allegations that it engaged in illegal foreign exchange deals, warning those peddling the allegation of economic sabotage against the company to desist from such underhand practices.

It gave the warning following claims in some sponsored reports in the online media, suggesting that the company is being probed for alleged illegal foreign exchange deals and money laundering by the Special Investigator, Jim Obazee who is probing the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, under the leadership of the former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele.

In a statement, DIL described the allegation as “spurious and a rehash of a similar report peddled out of malice by a competitor, BUA Group, masquerading as a concerned Nigerian in 2016.”

Dangote recalled that the spurious and false story was started in 2016 and published in both BusinessDay and Leadership Newspapers, and accused the authors of the report of rejigging it to make it appear as authentic and a new development.

Dangote said: “It is saddening to note that this publication of Monday, March 14, 2016 in BusinessDay and Leadership newspapers where the author had alleged that about “$3billion foreign exchange sourced from the CBN were diverted to other Dangote companies outside Nigeria, a practice that encourages round tripping and effect money laundering since there is no proper documentation”.

DIL management explained that the same false report back “in 2016 was now being given a fresh false slant by one Ahmed Fahad purporting it to be a new petition directed to the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Mr. Jim Obazee, the Special Investigator probing the CBN, and subsequently different blogs and social media platforms have been carrying variants of this arrant falsehood to the detriment of our corporate reputation.”

The statement said “attempt by the authors of this misleading allegation to give it a fresh life in the media is baffling as the two newspapers that were misguided into publishing it as advertorial then (2016) have since publicly apologised to the Management of Dangote Industries Limited in writing as well as retracted the advertorial in its entirety in their respective publications.

“Indeed, BusinessDay and Leadership Newspapers admitted that the advertorial was sponsored by Messrs. BUA Nigeria Limited.”

DIL re-emphasised that foreign exchange for its numerous projects were sourced strictly from Interbank Foreign Exchange market in compliance with the CBN approvals and that “Letters of Credit” were established for the construction of the various operational plants and for the purchase of heavy equipment and spares required for the take-off of the Dangote Cement plants.

“The terms and conditions for payments on the transactions were clearly spelt out in the Letters of Credit instruments and in line with the International Chamber of Commerce – Universal Customs & Practice for Documentation Credit – UCP 600.

“It is also crucial to note that the Letters of Credit in favour of Sinoma International Engineering Co Ltd (a Chinese Government owned company), being the major contractor who accounted for over 75 per cent of these expenditure were paid against the presentation of all relevant shipping documents.

“There was no single payment that was made through any Dubai company owned by us,” the statement noted.

DIL explained its forex dealings thus: “all FX purchased in respect of our African Projects expansion were fully utilised for what they were meant for. The projects for which the FX was utilised are visible for everyone to see.

“It is on record that some of these projects were commissioned by Nigerian top-ranking government officials and in attendance were Chief Executives of various banks, Captains of Industries and the Presidents of the host countries supported by their Senior Government Officials.”

The company further stated that funds invested in its expansion project across African countries are legitimate capital investments in those countries and the repatriation of FX in sum of $576 million so far has helped to boost foreign Exchange earnings in Nigeria and stabilise the FX Market.

Besides, DIL emphasised that it had “always funded the construction of her various plants from Interbank FX Market in line with the CBN directives and relevant periodic progress reports were submitted to the banks for onward submission to the Central Bank of Nigeria.”

However, BUA Group has stoutly rose in it's defence and waved off the allegation as campaign of calumny and cheap blackmail orchestrated to destroy it's reputation.

BUA in the statement signed by its management detailed what it described as several acts of sabotage by Dangote on their businesses and operations across the country.

The statement read, “It’s with a profound sense of responsibility and a heavy heart that we address the claims and very cheap attempts at blackmail levelled against BUA by Aliko Dangote in a recent 7-page editorial following months of sponsored campaigns of calumny against us using third-party platforms. To put things in perspective, it’s imperative to revisit history—a history not of rivalry but of resilience; not of enmity, but of endurance.

“In August 1991, a young BUA was doing its commodities trading business just as Nigeria faced a scarcity of sugar. As sugar was scarce, BUA was lucky to be one of the few with any stock for sale, and we stood prepared to supply the nation’s needs as best as our stock could. It was during this period Aliko Dangote approached us to purchase sugar.

“If only we knew he was setting the first of many traps in our business history. He gave us a Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria Cheque, which bounced upon presentation to the bank. Unbeknown to us, this was a ruse that would lead to a court-sanctioned freeze of our assets orchestrated by Dangote.

“For three agonising months, our accounts were garnished, warehouses shuttered, and our spirit tested. Yet, from the ashes of deceit, BUA survived. (see attached court order)”

“Fast forward a few years later, we decided that since we were making good progress in our various businesses, we should open a sugar refinery. We approached one Usman Dantata (now late), Aliko Dangote’s uncle, and leased his NPA waterfront land (4.5 hectares) at the Tincan Island port, ‘Polo House’.

“We took the land, signed an agreement with the consent of NPA, and paid all applicable dues. Dangote waited until our contractors and equipment had been mobilised to the site, then he went to former President Obasanjo. President Obasanjo had the land revoked entirely and gave the lease to Dangote. As a result, even his uncle lost the land. BUA was only given 24 hours to vacate the land.

“It took us over a year to get another land. How?

“Our survival as a business, especially our Lagos sugar refinery is a legacy handed to us by a loving father who, seeing his son’s distress, did what only the noblest and kindest of hearts could do. With unwavering faith, our Chairman’s late father—may his soul rest in eternal peace—handed him the land on which our Lagos Sugar Refinery stands today.

“This land was the location of one of his thriving businesses with a warehouse, which he shut down and handed to us without asking for compensation. He just saw the pain of our chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, called him one day and handed him the papers to the land.

“His gesture was a beacon of hope in one of our darkest hours. And so, BUA survived again another Dangote trap. Today, we are now the largest Sugar refining concern in West Africa.

“Our businesses continued to surge forward amid several other attempts, too many to mention now. In 2007, under President Yar’Adua’s visionary mandate to broaden Nigeria’s cement industry and break the monopoly in the sector, BUA was among the six companies selected and granted licenses.

“Our approach was unconventional but effective: we introduced a floating terminal – ‘BUA CEMENT I’, which is a cement factory built into a large ship, as a stopgap while we were working on securing our land-based cement plant.

“What followed, however, was another act intended to drive us out of business. Our application to dock the floating terminal in Lagos met with resistance. We then decided to berth the ship at the terminal we owned in Port Harcourt.

“Despite this, we faced considerable pushback and it took the decisive intervention of late President Yar Adua, who directed that the Minister of Transport and the Chairman of NPA honour our right to contribute to the nation’s growth.

“But the hurdles didn’t end there. The drama intensified when Orwell Brown, a Deputy Comptroller General who was also an older brother to a Dangote Staff, launched a sudden strike, attempting to deport our vessel’s entire expatriate crew.

“It was a Friday that is forever seared into our memory—the shock of our expatriates rounded up, their confusion as they were shepherded onto a Dangote-funded one-way local flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos en-route Asia via Emirates.

“Upon hearing of what had happened, we reached out to Tanimu Yakubu, the then Chief Economic Adviser, who acted with the urgency that the situation demanded. His call to the CG of Immigration was a lifeline, and our expatriate team was brought back from the Emirates aircraft and not deported.

“The aftermath was swift action by the President, who ensured that such a misuse of power would not go unchecked. DCG Brown, caught in a tangle of undue influence, admitted what he did to the Minister, and he was later dismissed.

“Through all these tribulations, BUA’s resolve has only strengthened. These events narrate not just the trials of a company but the resolve of its people, bound together by a shared vision and an unwavering belief in justice and fairness.

“We also know what transpired whilst we were building our Edo Cement Plant. Everyone knows the issues we faced. The plant we are operating in Edo would not have been operating and contributing immensely to the economy, if not for the former President Buhari who had to intervene by calling Governor Obaseki that no staff must lose their jobs and the plant must not be shut down, no matter what happens.

“We cannot say more as the matter is currently sub-judice – and is at the Supreme Court. During that time, Edwin Devakumar and Sunday Esan (two long-time and current staff of Dangote) were caught in leaked emails, whose content were not limited to sending thugs to foment trouble, close our factory as well as pushing bad press against us (See emails attached).

“Same thing happened again with our Port Harcourt sugar refinery – the only sugar refinery in Nigeria that is outside Lagos. Dangote utilized every means possible to ensure the refinery did not take off and we raised the alarm.

“At some point, the terminal was taken away from us and was to have been given to someone else at the behest of Dangote. There had to be a presidential intervention again for the NPA to do the right thing. Yet, we survived.

“For over 32 years, we have been cast as the antagonists in a narrative woven with malice. We have not just survived; we have thrived, expanding our operations and contributing to Nigeria’s economy without resorting to subterfuge.

“To Mr. Dangote and the Dangote Group, we say: Let us build, not belittle. Let us cultivate, not conquer. While we may share the marketplace, we need not share malice. We have nothing to do with your self-inflicted issues. Blame no one but yourself.

“In closing, we at BUA remain committed to our ethos of innovation, integrity, and inclusiveness. Our history is not one of being handed anything on a silver platter. We will continue to serve our beloved country and its people with the diligence and honour they deserve.

“Our past, present, and future activities are rooted in the prosperity of Nigeria, undeterred by the winds of unfounded criticism. We remain focused on building and developing Nigeria.”

ODYSSEY OF A LAGOS TOUT!

 Lagos Football Crisis:

Stakeholders Petition FIFA

By Lanre Olaleye

Football stakeholders in Lagos may have taken  the bull by the horn in removing football from politics to protect the sanctity of the round leather game.

The stakeholders which comprises of football administrators, referees, coaches, football agents and footballers have been watching the crisis rocking the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) with keen interest and have reported the matter to world football governing body, FIFA to eventually resolve the crisis.

The stakeholders recently met at Agege Stadium, Lagos to review the matter and at the end of the meeting, it was decided to petition FIFA to safeguard football from politics.

This follows the suspension of the FA Chairman Fouad Oki amidst allegation of maladministration and unilateral decisions.

He was alleged to have been removed in a split 5-4 voting that took place in the boardroom of the Lagos FA secretariat on Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos.

Oki was also alleged to have slapped his Vice Chairman, Olawale Gaffar, after the voting process that ousted him from office.

The erstwhile Chairman was alleged to have committed among other things offences that violate the rules and regulations of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

He was also accused of violating the NFF statues by not attending the NFF Congress with no excuse and without the knowledge of the LSFA Board.

The APC stalwart in the state was also alleged to have changed the association’s logo without approval of the board and the congress.

He unilaterally denied the Nigerian Premier League (NPFL) Camera delegates access into the Mobolaji Johnson Arena to test-run their camera prior to the commencement of the 2023/24 league season.

He was also alleged to have unilateral increased the match expenses fees levied on clubs without due consultation with the clubs and the Board.

An eye-witness account at the Lagos FA secretariat told The Snoop that after his suspension, Oki, who could not control his emotion physically assaulted Gaffar for orchestrating his removal. The timely intervention of another board member, however, saved Gaffar from his grip. Even a television cameraman who tried to get the shots on tape was not spared as the ousted chairman punched the camera lense.

The fiasco, according to sources became a grave concern to Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu who directed his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde to intervene in the matter with a view for amicable settlement. But this did not yeild positive result as Gafar was reported to have ruled out any possibility of working with the embattled chairman again.

Gafar's hard stand, according to findings is premised on the wish of the stakeholders who have vowed not to allow Oki return to lead the football association again

For keen followers of football in Lagos, this volte face from the stakeholders did not come as a surprise as Oki is considered an outsider who has contributed nothing to the growth and progress of football in the state. He was said to have been surprisingly foisted on the association by the state governor and the ruling APC in the state.

"He (Oki) has no business running the affairs of football in Lagos again,” a stakeholder reportedly told our correspondent.

“This is no longer football when there is direct confrontation by administrators and not footballers, especially from an FA chairman. It’s barbaric and unacceptable. I will not belong to a place where things are not done the proper way.

“It’s been drama at the Lagos FA all this while and its reached its height.” He concluded.

The stakeholders are said to have dispatched the petition to FIFA even as the world governing body was said to have acknowledge receiving the petition.  But FIFA was said to be waiting on a report from the Nigeria football Federation (NFF) before it takes a decision on the matter.

However, The Snoop exclusively gathered that the embattled football chairman has been running from pillar to post to save his job. He was saying to have started meeting individual board members, stakeholders and top politicians in Abuja to give him a soft landing. But this has yet to yield dividend as it seems stakeholders are bent on easing him out for good.

FIERCE COURT BATTLE!

Pinnick Sues Davido For N2.3bn

All is now set for a fierce legal battle between former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick and Afrobeat sensation, David Adeleke a.k.a Davido following a N2.3 bn suit instituted by the former football boss against the musician.

The former Executive member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had demanded a refund of the money expended on the failed show from the musician which he declined but rather accused Pinnick of corruption while he held sway as the country's football boss.

Davido had contended he would rather pay footballers who have been victims of corruption perpetrated by the erstwhile CAF member.

Pinnick, whose company was the organisers of the annual ‘Warri Again Concert’, Brownhill Investments Company Limited instituted a N2.3bn suit against the hip-hop artiste over an alleged breach of agreement/contract entered into between them.

Brownhill Investments Company Limited filed the suit marked EHC/183/2023 before the Delta State High Court in Effurun.

The claimant, through its lawyer, Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem, is asking the court to award N2bn as general damages against Davido and his his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited.

The claimant is praying the court to award against Davido the sum of N150m as legal and professional fees and an additional sum of N30m as the cost of filing the suit.

It also wants the court to order the singer “to tender a public apology on all the 1st defendant’s social media accounts/handles and in two national daily newspapers for four consecutive days, to the claimant and attendees.”

In its statement of claim, the claimant stated that sometime in early 2023, Davido approached Pinnick, when they met at the Abuja Airport and asked to be engaged for the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again Concert’ event to be held on October 6, 2023.

The claimant said Pinnick was hesitant to grant the request, he eventually did and they agreed on N70m as Davido’s performance fee.

It said that thereafter, the sum of US$94,500.00 (an equivalent of N70m) was paid on April 6, 2023, and the same was duly acknowledged by the defendants.

It further said after the payment, Davido did a promotional video ahead of the event but he eventually failed to show up on the day of the event.

The claimant stated that it expended humongous resources on print and social media adverts and promotions for the event, adding that on September 29, 2023, precisely a week before the slated date of the event, a formal letter of reminder was sent to the Davido in respect of the event, which contained flight itinerary of the private jet chartered to personally convey him and his team to and from Warri, Delta State for the event, thereby incurring additional expenses of $18,000.

It stated, however, that all attempts to reach Davido and his team on the day of the event, October 6, 2023, were futile, adding that it kept the private jet chartered to convey Davido and his team to Warri at the Airport in Lagos on standby should they eventually show up.

Consequently, Pinnick’s company is asking for the payment of $94,500 as full payment for engaging the services of Davido.

In his earlier defence, Davido said the show promoters knew he was not coming around for the event. Despite this, the singer said they promoted the show with his photos.

“I was not going to be physically able to make it and this had been communicated to ‘them’ for a long while now. I mean months ago but for reasons best known to them, they continued to promote the show using my name,” he wrote on his Instagram handle.

He, however, apologised to “my lovely fans in Warri that spent their hard-earned money to come out. Apologies that you had to experience this.

"It’s a shame. But especially for my fans out there, don’t worry, you know I gotta bring Timeless to Delta State. We will do it properly, bigger and better!” he added.

But keen entertainment followers have questioned why Davido collected full payment from organizers of the show when he knew he was not going to be around for the show. This indiscretion, they posited is likely to be his undoing when legal fireworks begins
