Gov. Makinde Commissions Ultra-Modern Olubadan Palace Ahead of Coronation
Gov. Seyi Makinde has officially commissioned the newly built ultra-modern palace in anticipation of the coronation of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, at Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
The palace, a landmark project under construction for many years, is now completed, and Oba Olakulehin will be the first monarch to reside in the grand edifice.
“I want to specially recognise the efforts of two people. The first person is late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who was bold and audacious in taking the very first step in actualising this palace project. Chief Bayo Oyero is the second person who I want to specially recognise. Initially, we were told that he was responsible for the delay in executing the project, but I know that he was an asset to Oyo State and Nigeria. Hence, let me officially recognise you today. On behalf of Ibadan, I say thank you, Baba,” Governor Makinde said.He also expressed his gratitude to all sons and daughters of Ibadanland for their support.
The President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Ajeniyi Ajewole, highlighted that the completion of the palace marks the end of mockery from outsiders who previously noted that Ibadan, despite its uniqueness, did not have its own palace.
Representing the Olubadan-designate, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Lateef Adebimpe, conveyed appreciation to the Oyo State government for its vital role in completing the project.
The newly commissioned palace stands as a symbol of Ibadan’s heritage and progress, ready to host the coronation of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
