Council Boss Shobowale Dragged To Lagos Assembly Over Prolonged Absence From Office

Bola Shobowale, Chairman of the Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has been “dragged” to the Lagos State House of Assembly over alleged prolonged absences from work, which stakeholders claim are hindering progress in the area.

She faces accusations of “negligence and incompetence,” which, according to a petition submitted by concerned citizens and stakeholders of the LCDA to the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, have severely impacted local governance and development.

The council boss is reportedly battling a medical condition that has left a significant void in the administration of the LCDA.

Additionally, she is said to refuse to follow the chain of command necessary for effective operations within the council.

Development initiatives have stalled due to her health struggles and continued grip on power according to the petitioners.

The situation reportedly worsened after a recent incident in which she collapsed during one of her rare appearances at the council headquarters.

Shobowale was reportedly taken away from the office after the collapse and has not been seen, even when the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress, sent an assessment team led by former Deputy Governor Femi Pedro to the LCDA on Wednesday, October 25, 2024

The assessment visit was part of a statewide performance review of all council chairmen ahead of next year’s local government election.

The visit, however, led to a confrontation as supporters of the absent chairman clashed with those seeking to highlight the ongoing issues. Security had to step in to protect the visiting team, including the former deputy governor, who was ushered out to avoid harm.

Faced with the deteriorating situation, concerned citizens and stakeholders reportedly petitioned the Lagos State House of Assembly through the Speaker’s office, seeking intervention.

Mike Adenuga’s Daughter, Sade Weds As Billionaire Businessman  Makes Rare Public Appearance

One of Africa’s richest men and chairman of Globacom Mike Adenuga made a rare public appearance on Saturday, October 26 for the wedding of his daughter Sade

Fondly called ‘The Bull’, the 71-year-old, worth over $6 billion, is not one to pose before cameras regularly.

However, on October 26, he threw caution to the wind to celebrate his youngest daughter in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

Adenuga was last seen in public on August 4, 2023, when he visited President Bola Tinubu in Aso Rock. Before this, the business mogul joined Tinubu in paying a visit to the paramount ruler of Ijebuland Oba Sikiru Adetona in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State on June 29, 2023.

Adenuga’s daughter Sade got married to Adebola Ogunsanya son of the late Ademefun Ogunsanya and Mrs Idera Ogunsanya of Ikorodu kingdom.

The culture of the Ijebu people was on display at the wedding.

Former governor of Ogun State Olusegun Osoba and his wife Aderinsola Osoba chaired the occasion.

Among the dignitaries were Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu; governors Ademola Adeleke and Dapo Abiodun, senators Ibikunle Amosun and Tokunbo Abiru; Lt Gen. Alani Akinrinade, Maj. Gen. Ike Nwachukwu (retd), Tunde Folawiyo, Jimi Benson and Ayo Subair.

Others present were the former CEO of FirstBank, Adesola Adeduntan; Nana Otedola, Bode Emmanuel, Iranola Ayodeji and Layi Amoje.

The event was anchored by comedian Tee-A while King Sunny Ade (KSA), Davido, D’banj and Flavour entertained guests with music.

Dubbed the darling of the house, Sade graduated with a degree in law from the United Kingdom in 2015 and was gifted a Range Rover by her father. She is the group executive director of MA Group and founder of QuickLaw

Man City’s Rodri Wins Men’s Ballon d’Or As Madrid Boycotts Ceremony

Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri was awarded the men’s Ballon d’Or on Monday after securing a fourth consecutive Premier League title and winning Euro 2024. However, Real Madrid boycotted the ceremony in protest.

The decision to award the prize for the world’s best player to the deep-lying midfielder was unexpected, with Real Madrid’s Liga and Champions League double-winner Vinicius Junior widely regarded as the pre-ceremony favourite.

Hours before the festivities in Paris, the Spanish club announced that its delegation would not attend the ceremony at the Châtelet Theatre, citing perceived disrespect towards Vinicius.

Rodri, 28, played a pivotal role as City fended off Arsenal to clinch the Premier League title last season. He was also named Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024, where Spain emerged victorious in Germany.

Despite French organisers insisting that the identity of the winner was closely guarded, news appeared to have leaked, prompting Madrid to announce its boycott hours before the event.

Earlier, Barcelona and Spain star Aitana Bonmati won her second consecutive women’s Ballon d’Or, after leading her club to an historic continental quadruple and securing the Nations League with Spain.

Real Madrid’s No-Show

Drama unfolded hours before the ceremony as Spanish and European champions Real Madrid declared that, if Vinicius was not the winner, his teammate Dani Carvajal should receive the honour.

Like Vinicius, Carvajal scored in Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final at Wembley.

“If the award criteria don’t favour Vinicius, then they should favour Carvajal,” Real Madrid told AFP. “Since that is not the case, it’s clear the Ballon d’Or-UEFA does not respect Real Madrid. And Real Madrid will not attend an event where it is not respected.”

Real Madrid’s nominees included Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger, Fede Valverde, and Jude Bellingham.

The Ballon d’Or winner is chosen from a shortlist by an international jury of 100 specialist journalists. Its organisers, the Amaury group—which owns L’Équipe and France Football—denied any leak of the successor to last year’s winner Lionel Messi and maintained that “no player or club” was informed in advance.

Best in His Position’

City manager Pep Guardiola has described Rodri as “the best in his position.”

“He can do everything: the quality, he reads the game, his mentality, he’s always ready,” Guardiola said. “He’s excellent in so many aspects… his presence, his physicality, he’s a complete player.”

Alongside his precise passing and ball-winning skills, the former Atletico Madrid player also has a knack for crucial goals for both club and country.

His goal secured City’s first Champions League in 2023, and he scored vital goals for Spain, including an equaliser in their Euro 2024 last-16 tie against Georgia.

“We have Rodri, who is a perfect computer; he manages everything, emotions and moments, in a masterful way—a great help to everyone,” said Spain’s Euros-winning coach, Luis de la Fuente, as he praised Rodri’s guidance of his young teammates into the quarter-finals.

Rodri’s central role is such that each of Manchester City’s past four Premier League defeats occurred when the player Guardiola calls “irreplaceable” was not in the squad.

Rodri is unbeaten in his last 52 Premier League appearances, a streak that dates back to February 2023.

City currently top the Premier League, but their hopes of a record-breaking fifth consecutive title took a blow in September when Rodri sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury, sidelining him for the season.

Man Utd Sack Erik Ten Hag

Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag with immediate effect, less than a day after the team's damaging defeat by struggling West Ham

The Red Devils announced in an official statement that the manager had been relieved of his duties on Monday following the dismal defeat at the London Stadium, their fourth loss in nine Premier League games. The statement read: "Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future."

United have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, with Sunday's defeat by West Ham leaving them 14th in the Premier League table after nine games. They have also failed to win any of their three Europa League games, drawing against Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce.

Ten Hag was in serious danger of losing his job late last season as United came eighth in the Premier League, their worst finish since 1990. The club spoke to numerous candidates including Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and Thomas Tuchel but Ten Hag eventually clung on and was given a one-year extension of his contract. It means that United are likely to have to pay an estimated £7 million in compensation to Ten Hag, which could have been avoided in the summer

Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach while United look to recruit a permanent successor to Ten Hag. The legendary ex-Red Devils striker will lead the team in Wednesday's game at home to Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

Isolo Throne: Court Quashes Order Against Jimmy Goloba

. Adjourns Hearing of Substantive Suit To Nov. 6

Justice M.A. Savage of the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State High Court has vacated the interim injunction placed on Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba from being installed as the next king of Isolo Kingdom.

The judge quashed the interim order at the resumed hearing of the application on Monday 28th October after hearing submissions from counsels to both the claimant and the defendants.

Leading the defence counsel, Prof Olanrewaju Fagbohun (SAN) faulted the claimant for failure to file motion on notice within the stipulated 14 days period.

The revered legal luminary argued that failure to file the motion within the stipulated period amounts to abuse of court process and should not be encouraged by any judge.

He cited Alexander Marine Management Vs Koda Limited (NWLR) 1999 to argue his position for the injunction to be vacated.

Responding, counsel to the claimant, Y.S. Yusuf aveered that the motion could not be filed within the stipulated period due to technical fault at the court registry, promising to file the motion latest Wednesday 30th October 2024.

He, therefore, pleaded with the court to rather extend the interim order till after the motion would have been filed arguing that if the injunction is lifted the defendants are likely to go ahead with the installation which would not be in the interest of his client.

Ruling on the matter, Justice Savage posited that failure to file the motion is indeed an abuse of court process aveering that the claimant had more than enough time to do so since 26th of September when the interim order was granted.

He therefore vacated the order and adjourned the case till 6th November 2025 for hearing of the substantive suit.

It would be recalled Justice Savage had on 26th September 2024 granted the interim order restraining the Lagos State Governor, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Executive Chairman of Oshodi/Isolo LGA, Chieftaincy Committee of Oshodi/Isolo LGA, the Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA and the Chieftaincy Committee of Isolo LCDA from installing Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba as the new king of Isolo Kingdom.

The suit was initiated by Prince Saheed Ishola Aregbesola (a.k.a SA 400).Other applicants in the suit are Chief Taoridi Faronbi (Alado), Chief Rasak Akinsanya Alabe, Alhaji Wasiu Awofe Aregbe Alabe and Mr. Tajudeen Omolade Alabe for themselves and on behalf of Alagbeji Ruling Family of Isolo.

Isolo Throne: Court Grants Injunction, Hearing Begins  Monday 28th October

Hearing has been fixed for Monday, 28th October 2024 on the legal tussle over the vacant stool of Osolo of Isolo at the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State High Court.

This is sequel to an interim injunction granted by Justice M.A. Savage restraining the defendants from installing Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba as the new king of Isolo Kingdom.

In granting the injunction, Justice Savage relied on a 62-page affidavit in support of the application deposed to by Prince Saheed Ishola Aregbesola and a written address dated on the 26th day of September 2024.

This was brought in pursuant to Order 42 Rule 1 (1) 4 (1) and 8 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019 paragraph 1 of the Pre-emptive Remedies under Practice Direction No 2  of 2019 and under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.

Defendants in the suit are the Lagos State Governor, Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Executive Chairman of Oshodi/Isolo LGA, Chairman of Chieftaincy Committee of Oshodi/Isolo LGA, Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Chairman Chieftaincy Committee of Isolo LCDA and Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba.

The latest development is coming on the heels of a refund of N2million to each of the aspirants to the Osolo throne by the Kingmakers.

Keen followers of the impasse had thought the refund would mark the peaceful resolution of the matter but they were wrong with the latest litigation initiated by Prince Saheed Ishola Aregbesola.

However, the Kingmakers remained resolute in their conviction that they made the best choice among the aspirants.

This position was echoed by the Head of the Kingmakers, Dr. Mukaila Adesegun Agbabiaka during a stakeholders strategic meeting with the Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Otunba Adebayo Olasoju at the council secretariat recently.

Dr. Agbabiaka in his address to the gathering which included aspirants, kingmakers, members of Isolo LCDA Chieftaincy Committee and the Area Commander Area D of the Nigerian Police said the kingmakers had chosen Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba as the Oba-elect in accordance with the guidelines of the Chieftaincy Law of Lagos State.

According to him, Prince Yekini-Goloba scored a simple majority of two votes to one when the kingmakers casted their votes having met the other criteria listed in the guidelines.

Dangote Refinery Seeks Court Order To Void Petroleum Import Licences Given To Other Firms By Nigerian Government

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has taken a legal step to obtain a court order invalidating all licences recently issued for the importation of petroleum products into Nigeria.

Dangote Refinery accused the NMDPRA of issuing import licenses to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Matrix Petroleum Services Limited (Matrix) and others for the purpose of importing petroleum products such as Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Jet Fuel (aviation turbine fuel) into the country despite its production of AGO and Jet-A1 that exceeded the current daily consumption of petroleum products in Nigeria.

The company also listed the NNPCL, A.Y.M. Shafa Holdings Limited, A. A. Rano Limited, T. Time Petroleum Limited, 2015 Petroleum Limited, and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited as other defendants in the suit.

In the suit filed for Dangote by a group of lawyers, led by Ogwu Onoja (SAN), the plaintiff is arguing among others, that the licences issued to NNPCL and others violated the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

The management of the Lagos-based refinery said that it is greatly distressed, adding that its investments risk being jeopardised unless the court intervenes and declares that NMDPRA is in violation of its statutory responsibilities under the PIA for not encouraging local refineries, but issuing licences for importation of petroleum products.

The firm's Group General Manager of Government and Strategic Relations, Ahmed Hashem stated, in the supporting affidavit, that the import licences granted to other companies by NMDPRA for the importation of AGO and Jet-A1 are crippling the plaintiff's business, to which it has committed substantial financial resources in billions of US dollars.

Hashem stated that the plaintiff's products are largely left unpatronised due to the alleged actions of NMDPRA.

He stated that NMDPRA had threatened to impose and demand a 0.5% levy on the plaintiff on wholesales and off-takers, as well as another 0.5% levy on wholesales to the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) via a letter dated June 10, 2024, contrary to statutory provisions that limit the implementation of levies on transactions within Free Zones.

Hashem added that the foundational purpose of establishing Free Zones is to foster competition, attract foreign investment, and create tax havens.

He stated that there is an alleged grand conspiracy and concerted effort by International Oil Companies and interests.

Hashem added that the foundational purpose of establishing Free Zones is to foster competition, attract foreign investment, and create tax havens.

He stated that there is an alleged grand conspiracy and concerted effort by International Oil Companies and interests, in conjunction with the defendants, who are unhappy that Nigeria has an indigenous refinery ready to solve the lingering energy crisis and save the economy.

"The intervention of the Honourable Court has become necessary in order to stem the incessant violation of statutory provisions by the 1st Defendant in favour of other entities such as the 2nd to 7th defendants,” he was quoted as saying

Dangote wants the court to issue an order of injunction restraining the NMDPRA from further issuing and/or renewing import licenses to the the other defendants or other companies for the purpose of importing petroleum products.

Other reliefs partly sought by the plaintiff are as follows:

It also wants the court to declare that NMDPRA is allegedly in violation of Sections 317(8) and (9) of the Petroleum Industry Act by issuing licenses for the importation of petroleum products.

Other reliefs being sought includes:

*A declaration that by the provisions of Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Act (NEPZA), Sections 23(h) and 55(1) of the Companies Income Tax Act (CIT Act), Paragraph 6 of the Second Schedule to the CIT Act, Regulation 54(2)(a)(i) of the Dangote Industries Free Zone Regulation 2020, and the Finance Act, the plaintiff, being an entity duly registered as a Free-Zone Enterprise, is exempted from all federal, state, and local government taxes, levies, and other rates.

*A declaration that it is against the NEPZA Act, CIT Act, Finance Act, and Dangote Industries Free Zone Regulation 2020, as well as legislative intent, for the 1st Defendant to impose or threaten to impose on the plaintiff an additional financial obligation of a 0.5% levy meant for off-takers of petroleum products directly and an additional 0.5% wholesale levy in favor of the Midstream Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF)."

Ex-president Obasanjo’s Estranged Wife Evicted By Landlord Over Unpaid Rent In Abuja

Taiwo, the estranged wife of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been forced out of her Abuja home due to unpaid rent accumulated over several years

The landlord of the property, located at 30 Jessie Jackson Street in Asokoro, had previously issued a 30-day 'Pay or Vacate' notice, which Taiwo apparently failed to comply with.

Obasanjo served as the country's head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as president from 1999 to 2007.

However, the estranged wife of the former President neither paid the debt nor vacated the apartment until she was ejected on Friday, October 18, 2024.

“Taiwo, wife of former President Obasanjo was evicted by her landlord last Friday over unpaid rent on her apartment which had even expired for years now.

“She is presently finding it hard to pay the house rent at her Asokoro residence. She was disgraced publicly and her properties were thrown outside. As I speak, the properties are still outside the building,” a source revealed.

In a dramatic exchange of words in 2023, Taiwo accused the former President of being a wicked husband when they were together.

The provocative remark came in the wake of her plea for forgiveness on behalf of Obasanjo, following which the former President disowned her.

Taiwo had taken to the public arena to request forgiveness for Obasanjo following his criticism of traditional rulers in Iseyin, Oyo State.

The retired General was a guest of honour in Oyo for a project inauguration, where he lambasted traditional rulers for not standing to greet him.

However, Taiwo’s position and action were met with disclaimers from the former President, who said she was suffering from mental illness and was neither his wife nor a member of his family, despite the fact that they have two children together.

In response to this disclaimer, Taiwo launched into a lengthy attack against Obasanjo, accusing him of arrogance and an unshakable belief in his power.

Speaking on the issues surrounding their marriage, in reply to Obasanjo, she said: “Have you not begged me many times in the past to come back to you? Yet, you query the state of my mental health?

“You loved me very much in the past, to the extent of even beating your first wife in the house because she insulted me. It is still very painful to you that l left you and l am still alive. God has kept me. When l couldn’t cope, I ran out and left your home because you were to pushing me mad.

“By the way, can you provide the world the evidence that the one you put in your house now as your ‘mrs’, that you paid any bride price or took her to court to marry? She is simply answering your name because it is convenient for you. How many wives of yours did you marry officially with all marriage ceremonies performed? Please tell the world.”

Senate President Akpabio Denies Romance With Three Nollywood Actresses

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has stoutly denied allegations of extra-marital affairs with three Nollywood actresses even as the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has launched a full scale investigation into the matter.

This is coming on the heels of allegations of romantic relationship between three female members of the guild and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio

Several actresses have been placed on the guild’s “watchlist” as part of a thorough investigation into the matter .

A blog post in July alleged that Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Nancy Isime, and Ini Edo were involved in extra+marital affairs with Akpabio.

However, Akpabio has vehemently denied these allegations, stating that his wife is enough for him.

Egbuson-Akande has also threatened to sue the blog for defamation, calling the rumors “malicious lies” and offering a N5 million reward for any proof of the alleged affair.

She maintained her innocence, stating that she has never met Akpabio and has no association with him. The actress challenged the originators of the rumor to provide evidence, warning of potential legal action against those spreading false information.

Meanwhile, the AGN has confirmed that the actresses are being investigated by its secret panel, focusing on the recent release of names linked to the Senate President.

In a memo, the AGN stated that some female members on the watch list are being investigated, particularly in relation to the alleged dealings with Akpabio. The guild’s actions aim to protect the reputation of its members and maintain the integrity of the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Kola Sold My Mum’s House In UK, Seized £650,000 Willed To Wives“ MKO Abiola’s Son, Mumuni

Abdulmumuni Abiola, one of the sons of the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, late Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, has vowed never to forgive his elder brother, Kola.

According to him, Kola allegedly refused to give his father’s other children their inheritance despite carrying out blood tests to confirm their paternity.

Abdulmumuni said Abiola willed £650,000 to his first four wives, but Kola allegedly refused to release the money to them.

Featuring on: “Mic On Podcast,” hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, on Saturday, Abdulmumuni said: “Let me give you some background on that.

“We did blood tests so we had a list of qualifying children.

“If you look at the will and you see how systematic it is, he names the wives and he apportions the money to them.

“I would like to give you some information on that.

“My mum was number two (Kudirat Olayinka Abiola).

“I think she was apportioned £150,000.

“At the time, Kola had sighted the fact that my mum died before my dad died, and because of that, British law would not allow him to release the £150,000 to us.

“He also said that his mum too is dead and he didn’t get the £300,000 for his mother.

“But you are the one sharing the money, so it’s odd….

“If he wanted to, he could have given us the money.

“Not to mention my mum’s apartment in the UK.

“Before we knew anything, Kola had sold it without telling my brothers or my sister anything about it.

“So you can see that they were systematic to try to impoverish my mum’s side of the family.

“And for that reason, I don’t think I will be able to forgive him (Kola).”

U.S. Seeks Forfeiture Of Air Peace Boss $14 million Assets In Amended Fraud Case

United States government has asked a US District Court, Northern District of Georgia to approve the forfeiture of approximately $14 million in assets from Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema, the CEO of Air Peace, following a recent superseding indictment.

This is contained in an indictment, which Nairametrics obtained for confirmation, outlining serious allegations of fraud and money laundering against Onyema and his associate Ejiroghene Eghagha, who is the Chief of Administration and Finance at Air Peace.

The indictment includes multiple counts against the defendants: Count One alleges conspiracy to commit bank fraud, while Counts Two through Four detail instances of bank fraud.

Count Five pertains to conspiracy to commit credit application fraud, followed by Counts Six through Eight for credit application fraud. Additionally, Counts Nine through Thirty-Five address charges of money laundering.

If convicted of the offenses outlined in Counts One through Five, the defendants will be required to forfeit any property derived from the alleged criminal activities, including significant sums held in bank accounts tied to their businesses

The U.S. Attorney’s Office claims that Onyema and Eghagha used fraudulent export letters of credit to transfer over $20 million into U.S. bank accounts between 2016 and 2018, intended for purchasing five Boeing 737 aircraft.

Investigations revealed that the documentation was falsified and that Springfield Aviation, owned by Onyema, had no legitimate role in aviation transactions.

Following the initial charges, the indictment states that Onyema and Eghagha instructed a manager at Springfield Aviation to sign a backdated contract, which was then submitted to U.S. authorities to obstruct the investigation and unfreeze bank accounts.

U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan emphasized that Onyema used his airline as a cover for fraud and attempted to impede the investigation.

In response to the obstruction of justice indictment against Allen Onyema and Ejiroghene Eghagha, Air Peace Limited acknowledged that the charges are part of an extended legal process related to previous financial misconduct allegations.

The airline emphasized that both executives remain innocent until proven guilty, and assured the public that ongoing legal proceedings will not impact the safety or daily operations of the airline.

The burden of proof lies with the U.S. government to establish the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

Davido's Father Sets To Build Largest Power Plant In Nigeria

. Narrates His Ordeal With Difficult Officials

Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, billionaire businessman and father of popular music star David Adeleke, (a.k.a Davido) has made public his plans to build the largest power plant in Nigeria

Speaking at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s General Conference Annual Council 2024 recently, Adeleke revealed that his ventures generate 15 percent of Nigeria’s electricity supply.

He disclosed that he is in the process of constructing a 1,250-megawatt power plant, which, upon completion, is expected to be the largest in the country.

“I am a businessman in Nigeria, I’m in the electricity business. I own power plants. I generate presently about 15 percent of the electricity needs of Nigeria.

“I have Chinese engineering companies that work for me. I am building and almost completed by January, by the grace of God, tenth new power plant that will be the biggest thermal power plant in Nigeria.

“It’s a 1,250 megawatt power plant to become operational in January,” Adeleke said.

He disclosed that while preparations for the project were underway, an unnamed government official threatened to prevent its completion.

Despite this challenge, Adeleke credited the near-completion of the project to the mercies of God, stating that it is a testament to divine intervention that the venture has progressed this far.

“During the course of the design and getting the permit, we ran into difficult government officials. For environmental reasons, our permit was denied, and the particular government officials that I held a meeting with told me to my face that my project would never see the light of the day. But while he was saying that, I was saying in my mind that this guy is talking as if he is God. I was saying in my mind that God should listen to him; Because he is not God, whatever he is saying is null and void.”

“So I left, disappointed and I told my Chinese friends that unfortunately we have difficulty and this project is going to stall. Meanwhile, the project is worth about $2 billion. In the process, a lot of money had already gone into the design and preliminaries. Before we get to the stage where we would need a permit and then break ground. So my Chinese friend was worried because the Afrexim Bank of China was involved so that meant bankruptcy for him. I told him not to worry,” he said.

Adeleke noted that his Chinese friend had to travel down to Nigeria to discuss a way out because he never believed that prayer was enough to get the project done.

He affirmed that prayer did as the then Minister of Power granted the approval because he saw that the project was a brilliant one

“I write to refer you to Section 24A (ii) of the Local Government Administration (Amendment) Law, which states “that the resolution of the House of Assembly passed in accordance with sub-section (I) shall be communicated to the governor for implementation.

“Sequel to the above, you are to note that the resolution of the above is subject to Mr Governor’s approval. Therefore, you are to await further directive of his Office which will be communicated in due course,” the letter stated.

The Lagos parliament had, in a plenary session on Monday, led by Mudashiru Obasa, unanimously voted to oust Mr Sulaimon after Sanni Okanlawon, the chairman of the House Committee on LG Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs, moved the motion alleging that the council chair chair “continuously disregarded this House’s authority and failed to comply with directives, showing blatant misconduct. We cannot stand by and allow such chaos to persist.”

The suspended council boss at the council secretariat, addressed residents on Tuesday, dismissing his suspension by the state lawmakers as an abuse of due process.

“Just as the National Assembly cannot suspend a state governor, the state assembly lacks the right to suspend a local government chairman. Only the legislative arm of the council can suspend the executive chairman of a local government following due process,” Sulaimon asserted.

Sulaimon accused Mr Obasa of imposing a contractor, Abiodun Ejigbadero, on the council to collect market levies in Alimosho.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, wants to force the council to contract the market levy collection to Abiodun Ejigbadero who is in the middle of the crisis that took place at Iyana-Ipaja market in April 2024, which led to the death of Micheal Ajayi.”

How Temo, The Mushin Drug Lord Was Captured By  NDLEA

.An operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Zofun Joseph Setonji, has narrated before a Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, how a drug baron, Jimoh Sulaimon Olowoidiogede a.k.a Temo, was tracked and arrested on 22 July, 2024, following a credible information and surveillance places on him.

The drug lord, Temo who is also known as Godfather 001 is being tried before the court presided over by Justice Deinde Dipeolu by the NDLEA on a six count-charge of conspiracy, trafficking 704 Kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa popularly called Ghana Loud, a drug similar to cocaine and heroin running of Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) and money laundering.

The offences according to NDLEA contravened sections 20 (1)(g); 11(b); 11(c); 14(b) and (20(ii) of the NDLEA Act Cap N 30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under section 20(2)(b) of the same Act.

The offence was also said to contravene Section 18 (a) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 and punishable under Section 18(3) and (7) of the same Act.

At the resumed trial of the drug baron last Friday, Setonji, while being led in evidence by the prosecutors, Mrs. Theresa Asuquo and Mr. Lambert Nor, the Head of Legal Department of the agency’s Lagos Command, told Justice Dipeolu that while serving at the Gbagada head office of the agency as Officer in Charge of Squad 1, one of his informants sometimes in April 2023, told him that the drug baron, Jimoh Sulaimon Olowoidiogede will be bringing in some hard drugs from Ghana to Nigeria through the water.

He told the court that he asked the informant to go and survey the possible route through which the drug will be conveyed.

He added that in the last week of April 2023  the informant told him the drug will be coming that week.

Hence himself and his team then planned how to intercept it but the informant later called to inform him that the drug won’t be coming again that week as the defendant has gotten wind that NDLEA operatives are aware of the drug movement.

The witness said on the morning of 3rd of May 2023, “I got another information from my source that the consignment will be coming that night, I then planned with my team how to intercept the consignment at Eleko Beach as we have earlier identified the possible route.

"We went there to lay ambush with five vehicles, three marked vehicles and two unmarked vehicles. On getting there around 12 midnight on the 4th of May 2023 the informant called to inform me that they are already loading one of the trucks and that they are aware we are around.

“As a result of the new information I have to withdraw my men from where they were stationed and instructed our marked vehicles to go back to our head office at Shaw Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“After sometimes again, the informant called to inform me that the second truck is being loaded, I immediately called the marked vehicles to start coming back.

The witness added that around 4.am on the 4th of May, he and his team were able to block the two trucks and during the process some armed men came out to attack them, "However, we were able to arrest the two trucks but the occupants of the two vehicles were able to escape as a result of the attack on my men.

“When the contents of the trucks were counted eventually, it contains 202 bags of Marijuana weighing 8.58 tons.”

Setonji further informed the court that: “while counting the contents of the truck, a call came in to him through a private telephone number and that when he asked who the caller was, the caller told him he is Alhaji Jimoh Sulaimon Olowoidiogede a.k.a.Temo.

“The caller further said “you have the guts to seize my drug, I know where you live, I am going to kill you and kidnapped your wife and children. However, in my reply I told him that before he kills me, I will definitely arrest you.”

The witness said that few weeks after, the seizure of the drug, he asked his informant how he can see the man called Temo and that the informant told him that there is going to be a party in the fortnight at Sango Ota, where Jimoh Olowoidiogede will be present but added that a special cap will be used as invitation card to enter the venue of the party.

“My informant also described Olowoidiogede to me, that he wears punk hair cut and always put on big and long necklace.

“Armed with this information I gave my informant N3,500 for the cap and on the day of the party I went to the party with the informant. On getting there the informant stood outside while I went inside to the party venue with the cap on.

“After sometimes, Olowoidiogede came in as described and people stood up and started hailing him I soon left the place after recognizing the defendant.

Giving further evidence, the witness said on the 22nd of July this year he had an encounter with Olowoidiogede. Adding that he went on a raid operation in Akala Mushin area of Lagos, but that the road was blocked forcing his team to take another road through one street called “Igbarere”.

“As we were going on the very narrow street of Igbarere, a Mercedes Benz SUV was coming towards us and trying to make way for us to pass due to the narrow condition of the road, I noticed Jimoh was inside the Jeep I then asked the driver to block the vehicle.

“As I came out of the vehicle, Jimoh also came out and started running, but I was able to arrest him despite his resistance and mobilisation of hoodlums to attacked and wounded my team members but I succeeded in arresting him and the other occupant of the SUV and took them to our office.”

Another prosecution witness, Mr Adewole Timothy, in his testimony stated that sometimes in 2023, he received credible information about the drug dealings of Temo and that he consequently went on surveillance to ascertain the authenticity of the information.

The witness added that after authenticating the veracity of the information he planned how his team will go about it.

The witness said: “On July 25, 2024, I led my team on an operation at Igbarere Street, Mushin, Lagos. And that at about 11 p.m, a Toyota Highlander SUV drove by one Sulaimon Shehu with Jimoh inside drove pass them. The moment he (Temo) realised that NDLEA men were around he stopped in front of numbers 32, Igbarere Street, jumped out of the car and escaped by mixing with the crowd.”

Timothy said the defendant later mobilised hoodlums to attack them as they were loading the bags of Marijuana in the warehouse located within the defendant’s house into the agency’s Hilux pick-up Van and car having arrested the driver of the SUV, one Sulaimon Shehu.

The witness further informed the court that 18 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 252 kg were evacuated from the warehouse and taken to NDLEA office at Ajah, Lagos and later to the Lagos Command Headquarters at Gbagada, where it was handed over to the exhibits keeper, Nketa Benjamin, who carried out field text on same and that it proved positive to be marijuana.

The witness, while being cross-examined by Temo’s lawyer, Chief Benson Ndakara, said the driver of the Toyota Highlander Sulaimon Shehu admitted in his statement that he is a close associate of Alhaji Sulaimon Jimoh Olowoidiogede, a.k.a godfather, 001, Temo, and that Temo owns the drugs found in the warehouse.

Asked by Ndakara on wether he verified from the Land Registry if number 32, Igbarere Street belongs to the defendant, the witness said his informant confirm same to him.

When asked if he breaks into the defendant’s warehouse, the witness responded and said: “Yes, because the key to the warehouse was with the defendant who had escaped during the operation.”

Also, the ninth prosecution witness in the trial, Nketai Benjamin, an Exhibits Keeper with NDLEA, in his testimony told the court how on the 23rd of May 2023, some officers of NDLEA led by PW7 brought 4 trucks to him.

“The first one contained 149 red sack and the others contained 47 sacks. I brought one sack from each trucks to carried out test and the results proved positive to be Cannabis Sativa.”

Benjamin further added that the Certificate of Test Analysis, Packing of Substance Form and Request for Scientific Aid Form had earlier been tendered in an ongoing case before Justice Allagoa. Hence the photocopy was tendered without objection as Exhibit 4 and 5.

Meanwhile, defendant’s counsel, Ndakara on Friday moved the Motion for the bail application of the defendant, while the prosecution also moved and argued their counter affidavit to the bail summons.

Justice Dipeolu, after listening to both parties, adjourned further hearing in the matter till October 15 and 16, 2024, while held that the date for ruling on motion for bail will be communicated to the parties involved.

 Why I'm Generous

- Wizkid's Father, Chief Munir Balogun Explains

In this interview, Chief Munir Balogun, the father of popular afrobeat star, Ayo Balogun, aka Wizkid, talks about his motivation for the family’s generosity amidst recent attack on his son , his counsel to his son when attacked by Davido’s fans, among others

You are trending online for doling out cash to the people in your former community in Surulere, Lagos. Your son said you go there often to give money to people. Why do you do this?

We lived in Somade many years back and we have our house now at Tafawa Balewa. I don’t go to Somade anymore. I only visit Small London in Surulere, and that is where my brother, who is the father of the Surulere Local Government chairman resides. I normally go there to see him and we sit down together and talk. I don’t go to Somade at all and it’s been many years since we left the place.

But you still observe your prayers at Oluwaseyi Mosque which is in that neighbourhood even when you’re no longer there. Why do you do that?

You know our house is in Tafawa Balewa and it is closer to that mosque. I’ve lived in that area before but I have left the place. My daughter is still there and everything is there. So why should I leave the area? I don’t give it to anybody and we don’t rent it out so that is why I’m constantly there and I also told you that my brother is in Small London.

In a post on Twitter, Wizkid said your generosity is also a motivation for his giving back to the people of his childhood community. What can you say to that?

That is the truth because one has to give back to his community. There is no need to force anybody before doing that. Children will always do whatever they see their fathers doing. Some people have more than enough money but to spend just a kobo for the people out of the money will be very difficult for them. That is not the case in our family and that is what I will tell you about that. We are ready to assist with whatever we have; we give it out. We are a kind of family that does not like when people are suffering, especially when someone says he or she has not eaten since morning. I don’t like hearing that because that alone always moves me a lot so I will have to give such a person some money at least to eat. That is our nature and that is why we always treat people well. Even when things were not as rosy as now, we were still doing the little we had then. So, that is the only thing I see there. I’m a Muslim and that is what my religion teaches us and one has to learn how to give out to people.

Now that Wizkid is big and famous, do you still advise him on certain things?

We talk very often. We talk regularly and he is not far from me at all. He is someone that is very close to his family and he doesn’t joke with his family at all. If I have anything to discuss, I call him and he does that too. In fact, he is not far from the family at all; he sees family as number one.

Wizkid and Davido have always been having banter for some time now. What do you think about the entire situation?

Yes, I’ve read it. I saw it on Facebook or Instagram and I read what everybody was saying.

What is your view about the situation and have you advised Wizkid about it?

I have done that and I told my son that he shouldn’t look or listen to whatever the boys who are supporters of Davido are saying. The supporters are only looking for what they will say to collect money and all of that. They are just looking for what they are going to eat and I told him not to pay much attention to them. I’ve told my son to take things easy with them and overlook whatever they say because I don’t blame them.

You lost your wife recently. What do you miss about her?

You know we were husband and wife and I do not have any other wife. When such a thing happens you should know what will be on the mind of the husband or wife as the case may be. What we know is that man proposes, but God disposes. We cannot blame God.

How has the family been coping with the loss?

We are coping with the situation and we just leave everything to God.
